Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Hello,

As a whole, I own too many positions and am looking to concentrate my portfolio. I own positions in both TFII and CJT that are in the same industrial transportation sector. I have a larger position in TFII, which has done well while my smaller position in CJT has slumped.

If you had to sell one of these, which would you choose? Or are they different enough to keep both? What do you think of CJT, down about 30% in the past year?

Thanks,

Q: I am interested in companies that might benefit from an Amtrak vacation boom.
I am open to any and all ideas.
And do you think this is a reasonable investment theory.

Q: Hi,

I've sold my house and moved overseas; I will return in about 3-4 years and may need to buy a new home at that time.

I have about $700K I'd like to invest while I'm overseas.

Can you suggest some dividend stocks to hold while I'm overseas, that I'd be able to liquidate to sell to buy a new home when I return in 3-4 years?

Thanks,
Robert

Q: These positions are getting large in my portfolio (7% or a little higher). I don't mind letting runners run, but do you see any that you would recommend trimming because of insecurity regarding the future of the position? Thanks!

Q: I am selling some of my stocks from an RRSP. Based on your advice to avoid trimming the flowers to feed the weeds, I am thinking I should sell the ones that are down. TVE is down 23%, ENB 17%, and SHOP 19%. Which would be the priority to sell or is there a better approach in this situation? They will be sold as cash is needed each month so it will just be a reduction in my position. Adding info to my question earlier. I am generally following the Balanced Portfolio, except I have substituted TVE for Suncor but in a much smaller position.
