Q: Hi Peter,
Both MDA and FTG are experiencing negative momentum. Please compare their financial situation and future revenue projections. With year-end selling, which one would you prefer to buy at the current valuation for a 3 year hold and why? Thanks.
Q: I recently started a position in MDA after the first melt down. Now it has had a second drop and I am questioning what to do. What would you recommend, take the loss, hold for now, fill the position?
Q: It is my understanding that the budget move to more fully fund the Canadian military will require a massive spending push. What companies will benefit most? I expect for US based companies this would barely move the needle since their baseline US business will eclipse our spending? Are there Canadian companies that could sharply benefit? Also non-US companies if there is more appetite to avoid American during the tariff / trade tensions?
Q: It appears Globalstar has not denied the rumours about selling itself to Starlink. So there must be some truth to the rumours. Presumably once Musk controls Globalstar he would cancel or buyout Globalstar’s contract with MDA leaving MDA with no business? I understand Apple owns 20% of Globalstar so they would have to agree to the Musk buyout. I can see Apple not wanting to be at Musk’s mercy but also not wanting to operate Globalstar’s business. Any idea what the future holds for MDA. I’m a shareholder.

Q: I refer to an earlier question discussing MDA's $10 million equity investment in MAXQ in which 5i alluded that MAXQ was in the "lottery ticket" category. So, I have been a fan of MDA but am now considering an exit. In 5i's opinion, is MDA's $10M investment in MAXQ visionary, or a "hail mary"?
Q: I half positions in the ten stocks listed and I am down 12%+ in all of them. Please rank them in terms of best candidate(s) to increase to a full position now vs waiting. Also advise if the lowest ranked should just be exited altogether
Q: Hi 5i,
I've owned MDA long enough to have done well by it. Now, however, since its vulnerability to events beyond its control has twice been demonstrated I have concluded that I'll sell and take my money and run, unless there is reasonable possibility that it too will be sold to a buyer in the space biz.
Knowing what you know about MDA and the universe it operates in, can I have your opinion as to whether or not MDA is or may be an attractive takeover target?
Thanks 5i,
Peter
Q: Considering the uncertainty about its major customer, but taking into account the crucial nature of its products and expertise, does the stock present a buying opportunity at $27.5-$28, present levels, after a drop of 20% over two days, for someone to start a new position ?
We are aware that BMO and Scotia analysts have brought their price targets down to $36 and $40 ( Outperform ratings ) respectively, lowering their P/E multiple to discount possible impact of this news.
Q: I would like to initiate a position in these stocks.Do you consider them each as buys, and if so,in what order would you purchase and at what price?
Thank you
Q: Hi, trimmed some ATZ today before earnings to manage position size, having a nice 120% gain but looking to rebalance some names and sectors. MDA and ZDC are two names I have smaller positions in but would like to add, currently around 1%. ZDC since breaking out Sept 18th has had a nice run and volume has been increasing. MDA has rebounded as well from the low 30's. AXON is another one I would like to add to, currently around 3%. Which would you prefer to add to currently? AXON and ZDC are trading a high fwd PE valuations so not much room for error in growth, but is the PE justified and can earnings grow faster than the stock price?
With the famous quote of "Water your flowers and cut your weeds", this is something I overanalyze when allocating funds. I have names such as TFII, TRI, DSG, IFC, WELL, ISRG that have been struggling lately, but you often mention that once we see a recovery in the sector, these could rebound quickly. But in the meantime, you have high quality stocks that have been holding up well that I want to add to as well. So often times, I'm trimming some of these losers as they go down, but then they come roaring back and now you only have a small position in these names. Also, I like to hold high quality names and let them compound instead of trimming them all the time. How do you best balance this dilemma? Thank you!
