Q: Hi Everyone at 5i! I learned my IPO lesson with Rivian and it hurts!! A good solid loss. I was thinking of selling what little funds I have left and buying some Mullen Automotive. It is a much smaller stock but seems to be beating earnings. Your thoughts??? Would I be going from the fire into the frying pan???Cheers, Tamara

Q: Hi 5i,
Adam Gray who sits on the board of NFI just purchased $33M of shares recently. Can I get your opinion on the stock. Can they afford the dividend? Do you think they might cut the dividend?
thanks

Q: GSY took a big hit today, was there any material news that would account for it ? I have a full position in it already, but, with the pullback, I am thinking about dollar cost averaging as I have a cost base of $145. Does that seem reasonable based on the company and its performance in the last quarter ?
Q: Has Enbridge ever cut their dividend? Does Enbridge have a history of systematic dividend increases?

Q: The current "supply and confidence" arrangement between the federal Liberal and NDP parties has resulted in the announcement of the intention to establish a national dental plan, for which there are very few specifics, save the $90,000 family income threshold, that this plan is for "Candians lacking dental coverage" (as per CBC report) and that coverage will be provided to Canadians under twelve years of age in this year, to Canadians under eighteen in 2023, with full implementation in 2025.
While it would be an impossible task to truly account for the potential impact to existing dental insurance providers, given the lack of any concrete information regarding levels of funding and range of services to be covered within this policy, could you offer any commentary (significant hedging of opinion is to be expected) on the potential near-term impact to the major players in the Canadian insurance space? Any insights you deem appropriate to share would be most appreciated. As always, I appreciate your candour and I look forward to your response.

Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. (CLF $11.40)
Q: Between January and March of last year (13-16 months ago) I sold my bond holdings in ZAG and CLF and moved the money into the short-term bond fund ZST. As a capital preservation strategy it limited the downside from rising interest rates. ZST is down 2%, while CLF is down 6% and ZAG 9%. I saw an analyst on BNN this morning recommend it is time to start easing back into longer term bonds. It feels a bit early to me. Won't the short term bond funds benefit first from rising rates while the longer term funds will continue to decline? If capital preservation and rate of return are weighted about 50/50, what do you think of moving back into longer term bond funds at this time and would you do it gradually?
Q: Can you explain to me the $970 million loss from hedging.Did they actually loose money or just opportunity cost

Q: Hi,
Is there a good argument to buy a reit or a similar security as opposed to buying a rental property? I know that labour involved in maintaining, commissions involved in buying and selling can be high when it comes to buying a rental property. But in the last few years the capital gains from rentals have been high especially in the GTA area..Are the returns comparable? Thanks.
Regards,
Shyam

Q: I fully agree with your long term buy and hold of strong companies philosophy which is why I am so happy subscribing to this website.
Recently, I've been wondering how cyclical stocks like those above fit into that philosophy. I don't want to become a trader, but I am wondering if I should sell these at a relative high and invest in companies that are more likely to grow steadily over the long term. These ebb and flow companies seem more suited to a trader.
Given that investment strategy, would you sell companies like this at the good point in their price history?
Thanks as always.
Kevin
