Q: Hi Peter and team, I'm looking for some input as to where to deploy a recent RRSP contribution. I'm an aggressive investor with a 20+ year time horizon, and I tend to hold a focused portfolio. Currently holding QSR, XTC, PBH, SIS, TD, DH, WSP, CSU, SJ, and ENGH in roughly even allocations. I have broad exposure to US, Canadian, and International markets through my group RRSP at work, so am not overly concerned with diversifying the mix above. What are two or three companies you would suggest adding to the above for a long-term hold in an RRSP? By long-term I mean 5+ years, so the companies would likely be in dominant market positions.

Q: I would like to increase my stock weight in technologies. I only currently have a 1,5% in BB and 2,5% in PHO. I have a 5% cash position in my TFSA to invest with a long-term growth (10years+) horizon. What tech company would you recommend for a new position?

About a month in and wanted to say great service and looking forward to the future. In looking at the companies you cover it seems like your B and higher ratings have been very successful while protecting and growing capital. Curious to know if you have a report on the total returns based on ratings. For example all B rated reports have returned x%, C x% etc.?For me screening by ratings of B and better will be the starting point of my investment selections to be further investigated

Q: Maybe better for forum, but further to question about TNC trading, and opportunity cost - I was slow to buy ITC and PHO at time first mentioned in Q&A and when 5i added to Portfolio. But then TNC offer came up. Sold TNC at 3.29 and purchased ITC & PHO per suggestion. I didn't buy at the lowest price after TNC announcement but up 26% and 15% on positions respectively at moment, though will be volatile positions for sure

Q: Greetings Team:

Greg Bonnel on BNN was wondering if the TSE would show a gain or loss for Monday on the Close and when he turned around the TSE lost about 70 points in a manner of seconds. Looking at my own portfolios I noticed that the banks and insurance companies had all dropped suddenly. Computers to blame, I reckon. Would you please comment on this.

Q: Hi, not sure if I'm the first to ask about the recent new, but I'm curious of your thoughts on it. To me, it seem like a good strategic move and will result in a more focused company. I didn't like seeing the bought deal at $9.90 when they are paying a 20% premium on aquisition. So I assume market will bring it down for awhile but longer term will look good as long as economy in US stays strong.

Q: Why do the shares since the BUY announcement only change between $3.28 & 3.29 & generally on a daily volume of +/- 1,000,000 shares. It just seems to me that most shareholders would want 3.25 or close thereto unless you owned only 1-2000 shares. For myself & friends, we own in the range of 25 - 40,000 shares each. We would sell for a 1 or 2 cent drop just to move capital but not .08 cents. Time is money!

Q: You suggest that a well-diversified portfolio is one that holds investments in the 11 sectors of the TSX. Pat McKeough of TSI, who is also a believer in portfolios that include all sectors, uses more broadly-based criteria. He breaks the TSX down into five components - Mfg and Industry, Resources, Consumer, Finance and Utilities. I don't see this a radically different than 5i's approach other than in the Consumer area where McKeough does not differentiate between discretionary and non-discretionary consumer companies.

I would appreciate your comments on these two approaches and specifically, do the two consumer sectors tend to be uncorrelated?

Q: Can you give an independent assessment of TXG's year end results released last week?

I know the results are not up to expectations but I don't think they were as bad as the selloff level indicated. What is the technical level support price? Has that price been breached?

I picked up TXG as a short term trade and planned to sell after the results are released. Well, what was a decent gain had turned into a moderate loss and I just wonder if I should just cut bait and move on. Thanks.

Q: I am somewhat perplexed as to what to do with my DHX shares. While guidance for the company is muted for next year, I am wondering if profitably is the best way to measure this company. Personally, I had thought that its content was what was going to ultimately be the value in this company. Does the company (or analysts) provide current valuations of its assets or are they measured only on book value? Or is profitably still a key indicator of value, suggesting that the programming assets by definition mustn't be all that valuable or the company would be doing better. I am wondering if this may be a comparable situation to companies that have monetized their real estate assets to gain added value.
