WSP Global Inc. (WSP)

CAE Inc. (CAE)

Stella-Jones Inc. (SJ)
-
Exchange Income Corporation (EIF)

Nutrien Ltd. (NTR)
-
Jacobs Solutions Inc. (J)
Q: I would like to increase my portfolio exposure to materials and industrials. When it comes to materials, I own NTR and was thing of adding a position in SJ. I am not entirely comfortable with this buy (concerns about slow growth), but I can't simply find a better alternative. What are buyable (quality + reasonable valuation) companies in the materials sector that you think are better than SJ? When it comes to industrials, I was think of starting long-term positions in EIF and CAE because of their recovery potential due to low valuation. Is there anything that you find concerning in these two?
Q: I am puzzled by your July 16, 2020 comments in response to a question on JPM vs. MS. You wrote “.... we would not consider them very different overall. JPM is significantly larger” ; “ business mix is very similar”. JPM and MS look different to me. MS has no retail business . MS has or will have an even larger presence in wealth management after its announced acquisition of eTrade. The deal was announced early 2020. The transaction has been approved and is expected to close before end of year 2020. Further, the above is an all-stock deal and although that affects capital structure, it should have little impact on MS’ debt level. However I may have missed things in which case your clarification would be welcome.
If I am correct: is MS a holding that is well worth adding to? I have a full allocation to US financials but hold only a modest position in MS. I am thinking of reducing BAC, OR another US banks and add to MS. My reasoning primarily: MS is not much exposed to loan losses; the brokerage and wealth management businesses seem poised for much growth in the US; its business model looks more attractive for the next two to 3 years. Would you agree or am I missing some important factors?

Q: What is your view on Noah Blackstein's Dynamic Power American Growth class (DYN245/ DYN1798) for a long-term investor in the current uncertain environment?
Q: I am looking to potentially harvest some tax loss for future use and have the following questions:
BTE - if I sold BTE, what is a good proxy to park the money in with similar torque to improving sector fundamentals?
PTE - is there any hope for this or is it finally time for me to accept that it was a bad investment
Nobilis - I noticed it reappeared on the OTC as NRTSF but looks like the price and volumes are close to zero (or am I missing something?)....time to donate to my broker in exchange for a capital loss?
Thanks as always!!!
Scott

Q: Hello -
Which of these three resource stocks is the better investment? Or do you prefer another? I would prefer that it would be a larger company with decent balance sheet and good management. It would be in my RRSP in USD.

iShares S&P/TSX Canadian Dividend Aristocrats Index ETF (CDZ)
-
iShares Core MSCI Canadian Quality Dividend Index ETF (XDIV)
Q: Between these 2 ETF which one would you say is a better hold moving fowarde.
Q: This is just a big thank you to 5iResearch. I thought I had a nice basket of solid stocks with many dividend payers, including a whole bunch recommended by 5iResearch. My stock portfolio was down 40% in the COVID-19 world and because I'm nearing retirement, I was getting worried and thinking about selling so that I'd least have the 60% left and maybe put it into GICs and try to live off that. But, your team kept advising me and others to hang on, suggesting that selling at that point was the wrong thing to do. I held on. I'm now back up to 100% and more. Thank you!
Q: Hi,
To enhance growth potential in the low-interest and slow-growth environment, I am thinking of selling JPM to buy either V, MA or PYPL. Any suggestion and comment? I already own half position of V in my other account.
Thanks,
Martin

Q: How can I obtain information on what price warrants can be exchanged at and for what period of time? Currently, I would like that information on AESEW, but I would like to find sites that provide that information on other warrants. Thanks for you help.
Q: What are your current thoughts on PBH? I'm looking at my holdings to evaluate what should potentially be cut for a better performing company. I've only got a couple laggards and PBH is one of them, after basically breaking even in the last year. I do feel its undervalued and could do better if some of their problems of the last few years go away and I think mgmt is pretty believable and optimistic. Not to mention the Canada Pension plan investment. Question is should I continue to hold for better days or maybe bail on this one and top up LightSpeed. I'm up overall so no tax loss consideration here. Thx

Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (AQN)
Q: Looking to deploy excess cash, mainly for dividends and some growth. I have room in both utilities and telecom sectors. If I compare the Utilities and Telecoms listed, it would seem from current valuations (Fwd PE versus historical PE average) and looking at share appreciation the past 5 years ( history of generating shareholder value) , 5yr dividend growth rates and expected revenue growth, the utilities group easily wins on all counts. Based on this analysis, I should be buying from my list of utilities before I start buying from the Telecom list. Do you agree with my conclusion? Should I add any additional analysis? Thank-you.

Q: If making your clients happy makes you happy then you should be very happy today. My TFSA went up a huge amount today....like nothing I have ever experienced before. All based on stocks you recommended.Thank you for this great service.
Q: I hold BAM.A at a 1.6% total portfolio weight. Would you be comfortable adding to double the weight to 3.2% or even 4% or 5%? Or is that too risky?
Thanks

Q: LSPD has gone up so much so fast, and REAL come down quite a bit . Which one is a better buy today ? Thanks for your excellent service.
Q: Really liking the US expansion. Market Cap is now at 800M do you foresee that larger investors are now looking for it to cross 1B market cap in order to start initiating a position? You have successfully used 100M and 1B as key market caps that attract investors.
Thanks
