Q: Can gou compare and contrast these 2 etfs. I've always held CDZ and paid the higher MER on the basis that research backs dividend growers performing better in the long run. However VDY seems to be performing as good or better. Considering a switch to take advantage of the lower mer and thus higher divided yield.

Q: Can you compare and contrast these 2 etfs. I've always leaned towards CDZ on the basis that the research shows dvd growers perform statistically better in the long run and thus also paying the higher MER was worth doing. However it seems VDY is performing as good or better and provides a higher dvd stream. I'm thinking I should swap.

Q: Recommendation for best Canadian dividend ETF for long term hold
Read Answer Asked by Paul on October 14, 2022
Q: 1.For Canadian coverage would you choose xic, vcn or xiu?
2.Would it be worth putting half the total amount in one of the above(xic, vcn, or xiu)and the other half in vdy?
3.For the U,S. allocation should I choose vig or spy which both require payment in u.s. dollars which I don't have, or would it be adequate to simply choose vun.

Thanks in advance. I plan to hold these allotments for many years and I appreciate dividends but do not need them for my living expenses.

Q: Can you comment on the investment merits of these two etfs. Are there others that you would see as more attractive for a diverse long term hold of both Canadian specific and US specific etfs?

Q: Hi 5i,
In regards to XEI and VDY ETF's.
I looked at their T3's for the last couple of years using the CDS services site
and found that: XEI seems to consistently have ROC and for VDY it is inconsistent from year to year. These are supposed to be Canadian equity income ETF's so why do they pay a portion of their distribution as ROC? Can you help explain why this might be happening to other ETF's?

Q: I own above ETF’s in a non taxable accounts for the purpose of relative stability and diversification. I am looking now for the next 12 to 18 months and thinking of concentrating on the Canadian market (VDY) for better return in the medium term.
I value as always your opinion.

Q: Can you recommend etfs to setup a smith maneuver account with target dividend of around 4-5%?
If you think I can get diversification from individual stocks then please go ahead to recommend that list.
Thank you for your service.

Q: I have a relatively small RESP portfolio that will have to change to an RRIF. I would like the RRIF to be able to generate enough dividends to cover the required withdrawals. If that is possible. Can you tell me your top ten highest dividend-paying Canadian companies or maybe even better ETFs or a combination that you would be comfortable owning?

Thank you.

Q: Am looking to invest in a Canadian Dividend ETF.
I have researched the above ETF's, they all have pros & cons.
Am leaning slightly towards VDY at this point.
Criteria: Will be in a non-registered account, am after monthly dividend income with
some moderate growth potential. Am not overly concerned with a high weighting in financials, ideally would have a lower MER but am after solid 3-5 year growth.
If forced to choose one only, which ETF would you recommend?
Thanks for the great service,
Steve

Q: Currently have a 17% position in financials including the above. Giving the current outlook for interest rate, would you consider this position to be favourable. Why or why not.

Q: Interesting question on PKO recently. Is there a comparable fund in Canada? Also, if I were to buy the fund, what factors might cause it to lose money? In other words, what danger signs should I watch for?

Q: I have been looking at these two ETFs. The top 10 holdings in VDY look like buy and hold companies. It seems a bit heavy on banks so really wondering about your short-term outlook on CDN banks for the rest of the year?

HGRO has had a good run in 2020 and certainly not expecting as spectacular in 2021, but do you think it will continue to do reasonably well (your thoughts would be greatly appreciated please? I realize you do not have a crystal ball).

Do you think the combo of these two would be a good idea say 50:50? The idea would be for growth as remainder of portfolio is with you balanced ETF model portfolio.

Thanks so much.

Q: Of the above Canadian dividend ETFs, which one do you think has the best diversity and investment strategy for a very long-term hold? CDZ seems to have the highest 3-year return, followed closely by VDY, but the latter ETF seems high on the financial services at 59%; not sure how VDY determines their allocations.
Thanks!
