Q: I see your report on CDN companies paying US dividends and was wondering if currency gains are allowable in tax free accounts. If one were to accumulate US$ in the account and then flip to CDN$ at a profit would this put you offside with CRA?
Q: Hello,
Do you have any info on this company? It is involved in supplying lithium ion batteries to the EV market. Jeff Dahn is the principal architect from Dalhousie University. He also has a renewable contract with Tesla. It trades on the Aussie market along OTC in the USA.
Thanks
Rick
Q: Hi. I know cryptocurrency is slightly outside your purview. However, your advice on QBTC.UN was very valuable in allowing me to get exposure to bitcoin (and a 125% return). As an extension of that, is there a simple way a Canadian investor can get direct exposure to Ethereum outside a digital wallet. ie an ETF, etc... I am hoping there is some liquidity and a reasonable structure. Thanks in advance.
Q: Hello 5i
How would you rank the listed companies?
I would like to add NVIE. ,but also need to either sell one of the listed companies or reduce all equally.
The companies are equally owned.
Your opinion is appreciated.
Thanks

Q: I have received a few shares of BAMR in my Canadian TFSA and RRSP accounts. What do you recommend I do? I would prefer to convert them to BAM.A at minimum cost. Do I need to call my broker (TD Direct Investing) to accomplish this?
Q: I currently own BEP.un as the only stock for Utilities and would like to buy either H or FTS to add to this sector. Which one would be the better choice with BEP.UN ?
Q: Just a comment on having Canadian stocks that pay dividends in U S dollars transferred to a US account. I had done this using RBC Direct with some of the Brookfield companies and found they actually converted the US to Canadian and then back to US (ie two conversions). Needless to say I had to undue the transfer and get the ACB corrected as well as they used the US rate as at the date of transfer to adjust the ACB.

Q: Good Evening
My broker, when recommending a stock, makes the following declaration at the end, in disclosing possible conflict of interest:
"X Broker and/or an affiliated company is a market maker, or is associated with the specialist that makes a market, in the securities of the subject company".
Can you please explain what the term "market maker" means ?
Q: MKSI announced its intention to buy the German chemical company Atotech. What are your thoughts on this move? It is a large acquisition and the initial market reaction does not seem enthusiastic
Many thanks.

Q: I'm really overweight in IT. Close to 35% but I need to get down to 20% or less. IT holdings are: KXS (3.1%); SHOP (16.9%); CSU (5.2%); TOI (0.4%); DND (0.2%); LSPD (2.0%); SYZ (1.4%); PHO (1.0%); CRWD (2%); NVDA (0.7%); DOCU (1.5%).
Not sure if it makes a difference but all are in TFSA except KXS, CRWD and DOCU (cash/margin account). Due to the fact that I'm working I don't want to trigger any taxable gains if possible. Obviously I need to trim SHOP by at least 1/2.
SYZ seems to be a laggard since it has only appreciated 45% in almost 7 years so I think I should sell that. Do you agree? (assuming a balanced portfolio).
Aren't DND and PHO going to be purchased?
I'm emotionally attached to the high gains otherwise... What's your suggestion on how to bring down my IT holdings in a tax efficient way?
