Q: I have been fortunate to come into a windfall of cash from a relative, and I am interested in taking new positions in the following securities with this new cash. Please note, my existing portfolio is fairly well diversified across all sectors in North America.

Can I please get your long-term opinion on these new securities I wish to invest in. Do you see any issues with respect to these investment choices? I have money to invest and feel the urge to plunge into the market at this time.

Q: If one has exposure to renewables through a large position in Brookfield Corporation (owner of 25% of BEP) and Fortis, do you think it makes sense to hold onto a small position in Northland Power? Q: RET/RET..A reported Q4 and annual earnings on April 13...annual earnings $1.59...$2.10 in cash....virtually zero debt...inventories well in excess of trade payables...yet the negative reaction was quite severe. Over the past several months, the spread between the A/non-voting shares and the voting shares has ranged between 4 and 30%..with volumes. Interested in your views on this reaction and what you would consider a reasonable PE multiple for a company like Reitman's.

Q: Hi, I have a 2.5% position in SCHW (down 25%) and am looking to sell while keeping exposure to the financial sector.

MKTX and CME score highly on my evaluations and others listed are pretty decent too. Curious on your thoughts on a suitable, safe replacement.

This is in my LIRA and I'm looking to hold for 10+ years (was also the case for SCHW, but I'm concerned wrt their exposure from their long term bonds).

Q: I have been holding qcom for over 3 years and i am up about 100% now i would like to trim it a bit because lately it is not performing as well. Q: I am thinking of taking a 1.5% position in each of these two stocks. You have mentioned them in the past month as beaten up stocks with a potential for rebound in the next two years.

How riksy are the above the names?
Are they entincing buys at current prices ?

Where would these rank amongst battered SMID cap stocks? I am open to other names,

Q: I sold my TOU & ARX about 2 months ago when the price of gas dropped and I was glad I did because both stocks drop app 20%. Right now the price of gas is still only about $2.30 and I hear that there is currently an over supply of Gas in North America (not sure about Europe - but I don't believe either company can get Gas to Europe yet) but both TOU and ARC are both rising. Why? Based on the current price of GAS both companies will see a huge drop in earnings this year. What am I missing??

Q: Good Morning
A couple of brokers have indicated that these two stocks are overvalued. Specifically for TRI they indicate that the Fair Market Value is $150.49 while the stock is trading much higher. Similarly for WSP the fair market value is indicated as $162.06 but the stock is trading at $176.03. One broker has even recommended selling WSP.
My two questions are: i) How is the fair market value (FMV)determined?
and ii) Is the FMV a significant factor in stock selection?

Q: I hear rumours Corus is owned by the Shaw family. The current family has been characterized as "coupon clippers" with the builders now deceased. There is speculation the family will want out especially if the dividend gets cut. The company is supposed to have valuable content with all their TV programs. I don't own the stock and I sort of doubt I would want to own it in spite of the rumour mill. Any thoughts of Corus as a possible take-over play?
