Q: I read that Jan 16, 2023 Suncor amended an agreement with Elliott to add an additional director for Jan 31, 2023 to Mar 17, 2023. Why would SU add a director for 45days?

Q: With the stock moving up lately, is this indicative of a deal being close at hand as I understand the company has put itself up for sale and if so, would $8 be a fair premium price for an acquirer to pay?

Q: Good day. As an investor, I try to investigate stocks that have good products that I am very familiar along with compelling financials and an excellent story. Sometimes this takes me to non North American locations. I know you don't normally research or comment much on such companies as Mazda but wonder if you could add anything on it.? Perhaps even some comment on the automobile manufacturing industry as an investment, generally. Secondly, Mazda trades as an ADR on the over the counter market. Any precautions that I should be aware of? Thanks.

Q: May I have your thoughts on the USA’s debt ceiling? There is speculation in the press that the most conservative elements (called the “Freedom Caucus”) inside the Republican Party will refuse to raise the debt ceiling without drastic cuts to the country’s chronic budget deficit. In a worse case scenario an impasse will cause government bonds to default. The caucus is quite small but seems to have a large influence over the Republican Party due to its very slender majority in the House Of Representatives. I will need to take some money out of my RRIF this year not covered by the RRIF’s dividend income. Do you think I should be selling stock now or to put it another way will a government bond default is simply not realistic? After all it would take only about 10 Republicans to vote with the Democrats to raise the debt ceiling.

A bond rate spike is typically bad for gold prices but in this case might be positive for gold. Do you agree?

Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

Q: Hi, Richards Packaging stock has been a disappointment for past 2 years. It is down over 50%, from the high of $84 made 2-3 years ago and still keeps drifting lower. Dividend has not grown for many years and the only reason yield shows at 3.5%, as stock price has declined so much. Based on your past comments and considering this stock potential, primarily income, is it worth holding on or move to better options. Also, do you foresee any recovery in the stock price, in 2023, based on company's financials, further integration of the healthcare company, acquired a few years ago and in the backdrop of a slowing economy ? Q: I own all of the above US Tech, except ROKU. I was interested in your answer yesterday regarding potential growth for ROKU, all things going well. Amoung these companies, is there anything you would sell to move into ROKU? I don't really want to put new money into more US Tech, but would rather find the right balance in the funds I already have there. Thanks!

Q: Hi 5i Team - Trading in Sierra Madre Gold and Silver (SM - V) has been halted for many months now, starting around the time they made an announcement regarding an acquisition I think. Would you be able to find out why the long trading halt and if there is a chance of trading resuming sometime in the near future. What are your thoughts on these two ETF's ? I see you have answered a few questions on these already. I am thinking of buying ZSP.U for a long term hold. Do you prefer one over the other or does it really matter?

My main question is with US holding tax. Back in 2017 if I am understanding it right you answered that in an RRSP ZSP.U would still be subject to the taxes. Is that still the case? I am a bit confused as all my other US holdings in my LIRA and RRSP have no taxes held back on dividends. Before I buy I want to be sure my dividend on ZSP.U will not be taxed inside my LIRA.

Q: Hi There!

I and family own CDR shares on NEO of several US companies. I thought that, as they are fractional shares of the main shares they would mostly move in same direction of the parent shares. Lately I’ve noticed quite often even though the main shares are up on a day the CDRs are moving lower sometimes significantly. I can understand a few things that may cause this such as USD/CAD FX or perhaps it’s trading volume differences. Can you please explain this further?

Q: I have already asked a question about this security. Thanks very much for your answer regarding the payments being interest and not dividends.
I just can't understand this security. It is an inflation linked bond with a maturity date in 2040. The new year's interest rate has been announced as 13.3% based on the 100 bond price. The current face value has declined over the last week even though the interest rate has gone up by just over 2% per year. The current rate on face value of 137 is 9.7%.
I know about the thin trading volume and the potential for Constellation to redeem the bond with 5 years notice.
What am I missing?? Is there a good reason not to put a fair chunk of fixed income destined money into this debenture?
