Q: Hi there, NOVS
This question is about AppHarvest. They state that their mission is:
"We’re farming for the future.
Our controlled environment facilities help us farm smarter, so we can sustainably grow more healthy, delicious foods on a large scale, all year long." The concept is that they are bringing agriculture indoors, much like The Netherlands have done, to use less water and be able to produce much more on far less land with vastly reduced waste.
A few tidbits from their site:
-Our facilities use 100% recycled rainwater and eliminate harmful agricultural runoff.
-Harnessing sunlight and efficient LEDs allows for increased, sustainable crop growth year-round.
-We grow up to 30x more fruits and vegetables on a single acre compared to open-field agriculture.
- Zero chemical pesticides for cleaner, safer foods
I bought the SPAC that owns this and they just went up a lot having lured the CFO of Impossible foods to be their new President which the markets liked. The company is about to merge with the SPAC and expects its first harvest in Q1. They have a large number of sites either in development, under contract or identified for growth. I see it as being a way for the US to become less reliant on imported produce as they ramp up and it hits the right notes with sustainability, no chemicals and reducing environmental impact.
My question is if you see this is a way to get in at the very start of what could be a big market in which case I would buy more or if you think it's too speculative.

Q: I have some funds in my daughters TFSA which I manage. It is for a two- three year hold. Do you have any recommendations of stocks or ETFs to buy at these current valuation levels irregardless of sector, probably more growth but good for this shorter time period? Thanks!
Q: Any specific reason or news for why GH has been rising steadily? Does 5i still like it long term?

Thanks, Tim.

Q: What do you think of agriculture as an investment? I think it is a good inflation hedge (and a lesser known investment asset class). Do you know of any good ways to get exposure. I see LAND and FPI, but don't know too much about it.
How are the valuations / how does one valuate those things?

Q: Helping my son with his investments which are as follows: MAW 106 24%,MAW 106 20%. VUS 21%, VEF 18%, VEE 8%, ZJG 6% and XQQ 3%.Feeling there is a bit of an overlap with some of these investments eg XQQ and VUS also with MAW 150 and VEF to a degree. Any advice is welcome ,stay as is , reduce holdings or increase some..He prefers ETF's and Mutual Funds (Mawer) and is a bit risk adverse but does realize markets go up and down though and is young( mid 30's ) enough to handle declines. ! Thanks.Paul

Q: About Canadian Cies in my RRSP paying US dividend (converted in CDN),and listed also in US stock exchange: since in principle there is no US withholdings tax for canadian Cies : is it better to hold them in the US RRSP in order to avoid exchange commission on US dividends and to get dividends directly in US $ instead of CDN $,or is there any advantage to maintain these stocks in the canadian account ? Thanks
