Q: Hi 5i,

I do not have any oil/gas stock at the moment. I would like to start picking away at VET, WCP ad RRX with 1% position each or 2% for one or two only
I am a little hesitant for VET because of its recent behaviour lately and wonder if there may be a dividend cut coming. Would like your opinion for best action with these stocks. Thanks (consider this as 3 questions)

Q: I see that xop was going to offer shares at half a cent to raise money to drill another well. My question is has this already happen I looked online can't ssee where the price was ever at .005 cents and if it does happen will I be able to buy at this price or will it just drive the price up more there sittin at 1 cent right now. I buy all my stocks online don't know how quick this will be

Q: My representation of the 5i Balanced Growth portfolio is now sitting with around 6% in cash. I thought there might be an update this month after those sales end-Apr, but I suppose there are no great opportunities.

Is there still an intent to allocate this, making the decision to stay in cash for now, or should that cash be allocated elsewhere outside of the portfolio? For the portion of my investments tracking this portfolio, I would rather not purchase something, then realize I need to sell it to continue to match your allocations.

Q: Hi - I recently came into some cash - and am looking for a safe place to park it and hopefully earn a little more than a GIC. This ETF was in Rob Carrick's column in Globe&Mail a few weeks back - it has a dividend of approx 3.7%. I am wondering what the downside is.. I know it is interest rate sensitive, also trading is light. What are your thoughts and do you have any other recommendation?

Q: Hello, as I watched the EFN episode today,I can't help to think how fragile the market really is.With the market just itching for a good correction, do you think it would be wise or prudent to cash up now say 25-35% + and wait for the inevitable to come?
I realize this is timing the market and no one can tell when this will happen,but for the conservative investor who has seen it before,it seems like it's time.

Q: Paying only casual attention to your recommendations I have unrealized capital gains in my account to pay your membership fees for the next 250 years.
Had I been more astute/aggressive this number would be in the thousands.
My questions:
1. When you have cash in your model portfolios do you ever add to existing positions rather than add a new name to the portfolio?
2. Could you add a column to your portfolio summary page that would indicate the month and year that a stock was first included in the portfolio?

Q: I was interested in Bob's question about SSW, so tried to check it out on the internet. My TD Webroker site had no news and elsewhere, I found nothing that would explain the sudden collapse in stock prices - only a bunch of crappy sites that seem to have boilerplate discussions of movements in price, but zero analysis.

Any ideas as to what happened on this stock ? Where can I look to find answers ?

Q: Further to my last, is the stock price decline perhaps related to an anticipated decline in dividend ?? In April the dividend of 13 cents a quarter (down from .38 in January) gave a price of around 6.50, for a yield of 8%. At a price of 5.20, 8% would give a quarterly dividend of 10 cents or so. Would you agree that the market seems to be factoring in a decline in dividend for Q2 ?

Q: Hi Team
I previously asked if adding Vermilion Energy to my portfolio to accompany Whitecap Resources would be ok. After reading your response (which was favourable to the idea) I did not yet pull the trigger as oil conttinues to be volatile.
At this stage should I buy more of WCP, to average down, I'm down 17% on the name or would this be a good time to add VET. The only other energy play in my portfolio is Enbridge.

Q: The company issued $100M of preferred shares at the end of April and yesterday issued $1.2B of ABS term notes. Looks to me like they have encumbered long term cash flows significantly. Seeing as how the market sold off at 9:30 this morning then bounced back somewhat is telling me that current investors are nervous over these actions. Just a thought.
