Q: I need more fixed income in my RRSP portfolio and my son's RESP. I bought bond funds (VSC, XBB, XRB) but they can (and have) lost money, so I struggle to see how they help me with safety. Am I better off to just buy GICs or stay in cash? Should I hang onto the bond funds I have already?

Q: I hold these in my TFSA. Do you think this is the best type of account to hold these in? Also, do you feel that these would be higher risk stocks compared to the general market as there seems to be a real estate bubble and would these come down exponentially more if / when there is a correction?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Q: Could you list your current top five Canadian energy names from a capital gain potential
Q: I have shares in MKP and received some rights as dividends as MKP.RP that are worth about $0.11. I can trade them in for more shares at $15.65 about $1.85 below current value (20 rights to 1 share).
Is this a good deal, or should I just sell the rights? I feel there is no difference unless I wanted to buy 5% more shares. If I do buy the shares, how do I do it?
Also, any thoughts on the company in general. It diversifies my holding and pays over 7% dividends. I have a 4% holding in the company which is a full position for me.

Q: Hi, in some of your answers, you have mentioned high growth expected in certain stocks. Which metric you are referring? Please name some stocks that will have high growth within 1, 2 years. Thanks.
Q: Can you clarify about companies that pay part of their dividend through "Return of Capital". Are these considered a poor investment because they are just giving you your own money back? Also, what happens when you have had 100% of your original capital investment returned to you - do you still continue to receive "return on capital" even though you have received all of your original investment back or is the distribution then reduced as you no longer have any of your original capital left to return?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Q: I'm considering selling MTA after making a 280% gain over about 2 years and replacing with something in the same sector with a yield as I live off my dividends.

Q: SLB is finally turning green, really green in our holdings. I did trim a bit today and appreciate having your opinion on whether we should buy, sell or hold? Or switch to other names in the same sectors that may have more room to run: Halliburton or Baker Hugues or diversifying the risk in IEZ - an ETF . Thank you!
Q: I understand that if a bond ETF has an average duration of 3 years, the value of the the ETF will fall by 3% if interest rates rise by 1%. Let's assume the ETF has a portfolio turnover rate of 100%. Is it correct to assume that, all other things unchanged, after one year the portfolio will have been replaced with bonds that yield 1% more, and therefore after another 3 years the 3% loss would be offset by the extra interest income earned?
Q: What are you thoughts on Superior? I am wondering if I should hold, sell? What is the financial situation of the company and future prospect?
Thank you
