Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: This morning a guest on BNN recommended Premium Brands. Their new revenue generators with Costco sound promising. However they seem to have a lot of debt and a very high dividend payout ratio.

Do you think their cash flow covers their debt and is the payout ratio really at 128%?

Thanks for all your help.

Q: Hi,

I set up an unregistered account for my wife several years ago with the following ETFS, with the thought that it would be relatively easy to maintain:

VGG
ZSP
ZCN
ZIU

In looking at it today, I'm wondering whether I have too much overlap. I can't remember what my logic was for these four ETFs! I should have written it down as my memory doesn't work so well anymore.

Does the above work ok? Or would you slim it back? And add VIU?

Thanks,
Robert

Q: hello 5i:
IF you were running a balanced portfolio, and IF you could only buy one of the two names listed, which would it be, and why? I suppose another way of asking this, is which of the two would fit best in a risk/reward situation.
thanks

Q: Hi 5i
How was the Strathcona conference call?
Strathcona announced they would be paying out a special $10 dividend if the meg deal does not go through.
How would 5i play this?
Currently a holder of meg...Wondering if this is an opportunity to hedge a little?
Where do you think meg ends up if the deal fails?
Also would you continue to hold meg...the clock keeps ticking on this one.
thx

Q: I have an oversized position in Alphabet. Could you offer some alternatives, yet staying in the similar tech industry, and whose prices seem reasonably priced.

Thanks,

Q: Hi 5i
A question dated July 23 had this portion of an analyst's opinion on PBH:

Assuming that 1) the Distribution Group is sold at a reasonable valuation and 2) the "new" PBH is re-rated back up to a trading range of 12-13x (i.e., historical ten-year average is ~12.5x; we are using 9.0x to derive our June 2026 target price of $140), we think that a hypothetical divestiture and subsequent debt repayment implies a share price anywhere between $205 to $225 at the end of 2026, ~50-60% above our current $140 target.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Does this defy logic, gravity or both? Can a stock that has been dead money for more than 5 years more than double in a year and a half? The $140 target seems optimistic, but over $200 is mind boggling.
Thanks,
Greg
Q: A question of how to take profits on a stock that’s has run up. If a stock has run up 80% for example, do I take the initial cost base off the table or do I take the profit off the table to redeploy. Idea is to keep the stock in play but also take either/or and reinvest it
Q: Hello 5i Team,
Could you please rank these 5 US stocks in the home-building and building materials sector for a 3-5 year hold and include a brief explanation.
Are there any others you would consider (not including HVAC)?
Thanks for your always helpful advice!
