ugh, how many times have i done this only to regret it

i share this only to help others with this predicament

here's my figuring

as noted you own 1 share at $51 and are prepared to average down to $30 in order to 'not lose money'

therefore you will need to buy 6 new shares at the current price of $26 in order to bring your acb to +/- $30

6 x $26 + $51 = $207 (@ 7 = $29.57 ACB)

then, if the price increases to $30, you break even



the question is " you are already wrong on this company, so do you really want to triple your investment ($26x6 = $156)

trust me, i have done this many, many times (way in the past) and this is the epitome of throwing good money after bad

most often it is best to take your lumps and as peter says, move on and find something in an uptrend

Could you please expand on an answer to V on the 20 stocks to purchase today if you were to start over? We are assuming that stocks/ETF’s are equal weight and the recommendation is considered a growth portfolio. If not, please elaborate. We were also surprised to see Prudential on the list.

If you were 70+ would you alter the list slightly?

If you were in your mid 30’s and 40’s now and have limited funds (30k-70k) would you recommend purchasing all the stocks/ETF’s equally and expand over time or are there specific stocks/ETF’s that would be considered a “starter pack”?

Q: Hi,
I believe VEQT pays an annual dividend at the end of December. What would be the pros and cons of borrowing some money, depositing it in an RRSP, buying VEQT and repaying the loan when the tax refund from this and other RRSP deposits earlier in the year comes in April 2025? I realize the loan interest will have to be paid as a cost, and the higher dividend amount on the added funds would be the benefit. Thank you. Michael

screened PBH as a company that meet the required criteria to sell before the end of 2024. And then on Nov 28 based on a question from a member, PBH was a stock identified for income/ dividends names, as you prefer to stick with high-quality companies with a long-term track record of consistent growth in dividends and a strong balance sheet.

Why do you suggest to sell the stock on Nov 19 and then on Nov 28 you suggest to buy the stock? Given that own this stock, and considering to sell my position for tax loss purposes, can you please clarify your position?

Q: I’m hopeful that 5i can help with sector rebalancing in our combined accounts. Portfolio Analytics currently indicates that Technology is now 20.85% of our portfolio, but recommends a target of 16%.

Of course, this is due to 5i’s recommendation of CSU, which in turn led to positions in LMN and TOI. We’re certainly grateful for this!

In addition to the three stocks cited above, we also have positions in these ETFs, followed by the percentage weighting in the Technology sector:
XCS - 4.68%
VEF - 10.37%
VFV - 33.77%

Is this overweight position in Technology something we should be concerned about? If this was your portfolio, what would you do? We are seniors (76 and 81), and both of us have defined benefit pension plans.
