Q: Seems like there is some indiscriminate selling of rate reset prefs
last few days. Not sure this makes sense.
What are your three top rate reset ideas at the moment, that are NOT in the energy/pipeline sector
Thanks

Q: Hi Peter and Staff
Visa has done well in the period of ownership but has stalled over the last couple of years....."Experts" seem to be divided somewhat on the returns to expect in the future.
In my financial basket V is a larger position than ECN and TSU but lower than BAM.A.
What do you feel about the future expectations of Visa in particular and how would you rank the 4 stocks future returns
Thanks for all you do
Dennis

Q: Hi Ryan, this question for you, give Peter his 15 minutes union break :)
Need to free up some cash to deploy into different sector. Overweight Financials and of the three mentioned which one would you sell?
I've been knocking my head on a wall trying to decide.
Thank you.

Q: Please comment on earnings and outlook. Thank you
Q: What’s expected from earnings tonight?
Q: I am wondering why ECN would pay such a large special dividend.
Can you explain the thinking behind this. Why not do a share buy back or spend the money in another fashion.
Thank You
Peter

Q: hi. do you have any information on the hiring of "big" mike McCormack as "head of risk management" at ECN capital. has anybody at 5i phoned the CEO at ECN, perhaps he is at big mike's "waterfront home in FLA". apparently over 5 million dollars in stock/stock options accrued he hath, shortly after his retirement from the Toronto police force? I'm just getting this info from Kevin Donovan's article in the Toronto star march 8, 2021. maybe it's just me, but this sounds a bit odd to me?
Q: Globe and Mail reported that between Jan 6-11, three board members of ECN paid an average $5.36 per share and invested about $6.25M. What is the outlook for this company going forward; I don't understand what is left of the company after the sale in December and how profitable it will be going forward. Seems strange that ECN hired ex-Toronto Police Association head Mike McCormack as chief risk officer -apparently he is a friend of the CEO - sounds like nepotism to me and not reassuring to stock holders. Thanks for your comments!

Thank you!

Q: Good morning, I have 32 positions spread between the two TFSA's that I manage. I'd like to get that down to 25. The above are holdings that have fallen to less than half positions and I'm wondering if you could suggest 6 or 7 for removal. Also are there any that you would add to in order to bring them up to half positions. Secondly, without knowing my weightings, do you have a suggested sector or two for this years TFSA contribution?
Q: would you say it is a good time to buy ECN now that it paid out a $7.50 dividend. Seems that the price to buy is now $5.31
Q: Happy New Year to all at 5i and to the everybody reading this. Hoping that 2022 is a good year for all of us and our families, from a financial perspective and one of well being, health and happiness.
Reviewing some of the past questions, I see that the ECN distribution is treated partially as a dividend and partioally as a "Return on Capital". For the latter, would you know how this is to be treated for tax purposes? i.e. Is it a capital gain, income, ...

Q: Are we long-suffering customers of BMO Investorline still the only ones waiting to receive our ECN dividend monies?? It was payable on the 22nd. Today is the 29th. I realize we've had holidays, but seriously!
Q: Seasons greetings to the wonderful team.
My initial position in ECN has shrunk as a result of the payout. Would you advise reinvesting ROC back in the stock?
Thank you

Q: Happy Holidays to everyone. I called my broker (cibc) to ask about the ECN dividend and ROC . They just called back to say it won't be paid until Dec 24 and will not be reflected in my account until Dec. 29. This is not what I hoped for, but perhaps the answer is helpful to others looking for this cash
