Q: I would like to do some tax loss selling and was wondering if you might be able to rank ILLM, UPST, OVV, TOY, SQ, GH, FLGT, and COW in order from those with the least potential to recover over the next year, to the most potential. If I were to sell them all, are there any you would consider buying back after 30 days? Thanks.

Q: If I sell a US stock or an ADR that shows a loss in USD but a gain in (reportable) CAD, how does the 30-day rule apply? Must I wait 30 days to buy it back or can I do it right away?
The same question would apply to a Canadian stock that I hold on the US side. It shows a loss in USD but a gain in CAD.
In other words, if I am claiming a gain on my income tax return (which I am reporting in CAD) and not a loss, can I buy the stock back straight away?

Must have 2 Canadian stocks from each of these categories : technology, energy, consumer, industrial, and small cap (max $1 billion Cdn market cap to qualify as small cap). Q: I am trying to figure a way to get around the 30 day rule for selling a stock at a loss and rebuying it. I sold HBF to capture a capital loss. If I now buy HBFE before the 30 days, do I still get the capital loss? The two ETFs are identical, its just HBFE uses 25% leverage. I understand the increased risk.
Similarily there are ETFs now which have a .U after the symbol. The .U version is in USD. I suspect the CRA considers them the same and I would lose the capital loss if I sold the Cdn version and rebought the.U version. Please confirm.
