Q: Hello:

Child turning 18 later this month. For initial $6500 to TFSA would VEQT be better than US only VFV? Very long time horizon and I never bet against USA!

Other options for long term growth?

Q: Happy Holidays!! Two part question - What are your thoughts on index funds, I don’t think I see any in your portfolios.

I read some commentary sometimes how some “professional investors” say they are better than stocks, for as the stock market goes up the index funds will too, but stocks don’t always rise when the market does. I do see the counter argument there too.

And assuming you’re not opposed to them, you which ones would you recommend?

Please take 2-3 credits, as that was a long question.

Q: TFSA top up for 2023. I hold all IWO in the account currently. My crystal ball doesn't like the current USD:CAD outlook so buying USD with CAD to get IWO at the moment doesn't feel like a good move. Does anything in the balance or growth portfolio look particularly attractive as a buy? I hold OTEX and ENGH as tech stocks, both have been adequately beaten up to be buys but I hate owning the same stock in multiple accounts so would consider a different CAD stock for the TFSA account if you can think of one. So long way to ask: just suck it up and buy, IWO, buy ENGH, buy OTEX or buy ??? as it is your top pick right now. 5 year hold.

Q: Hi 5i Team,

I am in the process of setting up an investment account for my nephew and would like to stick to indexes for the time being until he is comfortable with individual equities.

Given the current market climate and your best guess, what % would you attribute in a portfolio (out of 100%) to the following indices: VFV, XQQ, XIC, IWO, XGRO. Please feel free to suggest any other index that was not mentioned in the list above.

Q: If you currently had about 50% cash in your portfolio;

- how would you suggest investing the balance and over what time period?

i.e. 30% cash now, 30% in 2 months etc

Q: All four securities are held in a US TFSA at ~2% - 2.5% positions each. I would like to deploy available funds to either take two of the positions to 3.5% or add to all four at 0.5% ea. Q: My Son has $12,000.00 to open a new TFSA. He has selected the following stocks
XIU(50)-ZNQ(50)- VFV(25)- ZUT(100)-ZRE(100)- ZPR(200)
He plans to add $6000.00 plus Dividends each year and buy more of same, for next twenty -five years. Will he get a good return on his choice. or does he need to diversify more or only buy the first three. Welcome your direction to maximum total return or close to it. Can accept risk. Q: Can I have your opinion on the risk/reward for Small Caps in general right now? Some analysts are suggesting Small Cap valuations are currently low based on their historical position relative to larger cap companies and should “revert to the mean” in the medium term. Q: I am currently managing my TFSA/RRSP funds and some money outside of registered accounts, which are largely individual stocks. With the market volatility, potential recession and war in Ukraine, I am finding it more difficult to keep on top of the individual stocks and am therefore considering going to ETF's. I am a year away from retirement but would be ok with more risk in the TFSA/RRSP's.
Could you please suggest 5 ETF's for the registered accounts and 5 ETF's for the non-registered accounts.
