Q: My daughter is just starting out with a RRSP account. She has some VDY and we would like a suggestion of 5 or 6 non Canadian Vanguard funds

Q: I am looking for a good large cap USD ETF for my RRSP. I am 68 years old and would like a stable ETF with a lower P/E and OK dividend, hence considering RSP:US rather than the S&P 500 with a high P/E. Overall want an ETF with a good total return over 5 years.
I am considering the above 3 ETFs or perhaps you know of something better.
Thanks!

Q: I am an income investor in my 80’s, largely in large cap Canadian equities and with 30 percent in GIC’s. Approximately 5% in U.S. stocks through ETF’s. I feel that I should have a larger U.S. presence but lack the knowledge to invest in that market. Can you make a few suggestions, bearing in mind that preservation of capital is important?

Q: If you were to build a portfolio of just ETFs, what 6-8 would you select? Maybe ignore Canada for this scenario as I have plenty of individual positions I'm quite happy with.

Q: Hi team,

I currently have IWO as a core holding. I would like to change to a more concentrated ETF holding either in small or mid cap US. With so many different factors to choose from such as large/medium/small cap, dividend/value/growth/blend, current valuations, etc... and looking at past returns over various time periods, how does one choose the best ETF to invest in going forward now? I would consider all these ETF's to be high quality and obviously no one knows what the range of future returns will be. With small/mid cap underperforming lately vs large cap, would you place your bets on that spread closing over time? I'm comfortable with volatility and have a long term time horizon (+15yrs). How would you rank these going forward for best risk adjusted returns?

Thank you!

Q: I hold VOT at a loss (not useable for tax). Many analysts are declaring they are now out-of-love with growth. Do you agree that growth will, generally speaking, struggle through ~2025? Is this a good time to sell and transfer affections to Value shares— for example switch to VTV? VTV has outpaced VOT over 5, 3 and one year(s).

When I make such switches, I often find the security I sold significantly outperforms the one I lavished love on. With my errors in mind, I ask for your thoughts on growth vs. value over the next year or so. Please add a bit of your valuable commentary— that would be very helpful.

Q: Can you recommend some Value ETFs for Canada, US and International. Ideally looking for ETFs with reasonable MERs.
Thanks!

Q: Morning Peter & Team,

I've done very well lately, large part thanks to you. Now I am preparing to take some off the table. Plan on investing part into a 1 yr term @ 5.65% which I figure is pretty good. I am also looking for names (stocks or ETFs) which generate good cash flow and support high sustainable dividends. Can you give me 3 names (Canada & US) that you think deserve consideration? Preferably minimal debt if possible please.

Thanks for all you do

gm

Q: Hi,

Is the rotation into the value sector done? or do you think it is still a good idea to stay/buy into value plays.

If so, what is your favourite value ETF in North America and Globally as well. I gave the above ETFs as a guide and please don't be limited to these choices.

Thanks .
Mano.

Q: I want to crystalize tax losses in my non-reg account. Can you please suggest good proxies for IYT, VTV, VEA, and IWO? Thanks.

Q: Hi Peter,

I am fortunate enough to have added the following big tech names to my portfolio recently. I currently do not hold an ETF although have been considering SPY as I have about 20k US at my disposal. Or take advantage of other big names currently on sale?

Do you feel there’s better ETF’s since I currently have full positions of it’s top 5 holdings?

Thanks

Q: I'm looking to add a US Equity ETF that trades in Canada for a non-registered account with a 1-3 years hold. I like the profile of VTV (.04% MER, low volatility, holds large US value companies with $95 billion total assets, pays a high yield 2.15%). I'm unable to find anything that trades in Canadian dollars that fits that same profile. What would you suggest? Thanks

Q: Curious to hear your thoughts about CET:NYSE, Central Securities, as a potential 5- to 10-year hold for diversification, some income and capital appreciation. Also, would it make sense to hold this in addition to BRK.B, BX, and a few ETFs (VGRO, VTV, VWO)? Thank you!

Q: I have been working on updates to the growth portion of my portfolio. On the other side, I need to add a significant value component which I find much harder to do. I seacrhed for value ETFs and found VTV and XCV. Can you comment on these and could please suggest/recommend alternatives? Thanks again.

Q: Hi guys - you've mentioned a few times that the market has shifted from growth to value recently. Assuming we can't time the market with any consistency over the long term, how could someone who is dollar cost averaging take advantage of theses rotations in the future from an ETF perspective? Would it make sense to buy VUG (growth) and VTV (value) and actively purchase more when one fund is considered "down"? Is there a strategic way to determine which fund you would allocate more dollars to with each monthly purchase? Thanks for the guidance.

Q: This is about Value play through ETFs.
Two questions. Assuming that Value as opposed to growth is going to get traction in 2021.

1. Small cap value or Large cap value going forward.

2. Which ones from my picks above you think are worth considering. Any favourites?

Thanks

Q: My portfolio is moderately balanced, and do not include internet or technological Cdn values ( as SHOP,CSU,OTEX,BB,KXS,ENGH,LSPD,etc…),or equivalent US stocks. The main reason are that : 1) I feel that prices and ratios are very high 2) My objective is a ” safe mix” of revenues and growth 3) It seems impossible to predict wich Cies will be the “winners” in the future in this new trend 4) I tend to keep stocks and ETF for long term (not too much surveillance needed ) .Do you have any suggestion (stock or ETF) ,and general point of view ? many thanks
