Q: Hi Peter
I hold ZSP in my TFSA account. Is it a good idea to add XMC to compliment ZSP? The US equivalent of XMC is rated gold rated by Morningstar. Can you comment on XMC and if it is a good core buy for a long term hold?
Q: My TD Waterhouse account currently shows QYLD as yielding 12.4 %. Pretty sure it didn't yield that much when I bought it for a lesser price. Could you confirm that yield is correct and explain it for me ? I know the yield is a combination of dividends and writing covered calls but suspect the ETF uses a strategy to achieve a yield between a certain range. If that is accurate I would like to know what that range is ? Also I realize portfolio weightings are a personal thing but could you give me a range of low to comfortable high for a weighting in this ETF in an RRIF ? I currently have a 4% position and am considering increasing it to 6 % or 7% Could go higher depending on what 5I's advice is . ...... Thank you for your sage advice during these volatile market times.....
Q: Hi 5i team,
I went to check recent questions on UAA and there were none. Maybe that is a bad omen. It has really been beaten up with a big earnings miss and poor guidance. It seems to be one of the have nots in retail but I thought it had somewhat of a loyal following and some branding power. The item that recently caught my eye was the appointment of Mohamed A. El-Erian as the lead independent director. I have always found Mohamed to be very thoughtful and insightful on the markets. Is there any hope for UAA? I don’t own it but am intrigued by Mohamed.
Thanks again for the insight.
Dave
General question on the following accounts. What is the best way to view holding
Richards Packaging keeping in mind the effective yield and stock at 52 week high but seems stable in this market. Or sell taking tax hit on the non reg account, and investing in Enbridge or something else you might suggest that might provide yield and some capital gain.
Thank you
Mike
cost income yield on cost basis
joint $13,084 $2,640 20%
rrsp $8,941 $1,584 18%
Q: Gold stocks have been going up and McEwen Mining has been going down for quite some time.
Is it really that bad or is this a buying opportunity.
thank you
Q: I have been checking out investment savings accounts as an alternative to money market funds as a place to hold cash for future investment. RBC has a number of these RBF 2010, 2020, 2030 and 2040, but when I pull up a quote on the RBC Direct Investing site none of these funds are showing any assets. I doubt that I would be the first person to buy some. Do you know what is going on here?
Q: Peter; Shopify just announced that all employees will be permanently working from home. Two part question - is this a trend that spells doom for office rental companies- should bpy.un be sold ahead of a curve that could develop. Thanks. Rod
Q: Recently, there have been some questions asked about which companies are likely to benefit from a shift to more people working from home. ZM, DOCU, WORK were some of the suggestions.
Could you please take a look at the other side of that question. What tech companies which have done well in the traditional work environment are likely to be hurt by a shift to working from home? Are there tech companies that support business in it's traditional model which might not do as well in a work from home environment?
Similarly, assuming there is a large shift towards working from home, are there any companies which you have recently been bullish on which you think would suffer if that large shift to working from home was to take place?
Q: Morning Team. Question relating to VIG (NY) vs VGG (TSE). From my review of both funds, it appears that the holdings are the same or very very close in both. So the question then comes down to currency. Assuming that the $CDN stays weaker as compared to the USD for the forseable future, what are your thoughts on either VIG or VGG as a core holding for the US market. Or perhaps both might be recommended to cover off currency. Many thx. Steve
Q: Would you deploy a large amount of cash in the market today if safety of principal was your primary concern...and if so, in what? Are US dollar based investments safer than Canadian or international. Thanks.
Q: Greetings - kindly provide your opinions on all issues relating to this healthcare etf including but not limited to its assets under management, the advisability of it's maximum 33% covered call strategy, your view on future performance, the appropriateness of this particular etf if combined with one other single stock healthcare equity as a supplement to the healthcare portion of a portfolio, any cautions on it and whether another Cdn dollar etf in the sector is a better choice in your view. Many many thanks - Ken
Q: Good Afternoon,
I recall that you released a list of Canadian domiciled companies that pay dividends in USD. CSU comes to mind, where can I find this list? Not sure whether you did a blog & discussion on this subject matter or was it simply a list, not sure.
thanks
