Q: We have held VIG in our RRSP/RRIF accounts for about five years and are happy with the performance. It is now around 7% weighting (I know you are ok with larger ETF weightings vs individual stocks) but I'm thinking of reducing it by about 25% to bolster our underweight fixed income holdings and also to hedge against possible market downturn. My only other fixed income holdings are TLT and a couple of short term GICs. Does this switch make sense and if so what short term bond fund would you recommend if I were to make this move? Thanks for the continuing great service.

Q: Hi Peter and Team,

My understanding from the news is that Brookfield defaulted on some buildings recently. Given the significant tightening of interest rates, the collapse of a 6th bank, and the increased reluctance for institutions to lend and drop in liquidity, how do you feel about the safety of levered companies involved in realestate and commercial realestate?

Have you looked at what obligations Brookfield has that might face mark-to-market losses? Are people confident that the assets and therefore the equity are properly valued?

The building defaults seem like a "canary in the coal mine," don't they? Developers walk away from the building because it costs more to finish it than the building is worth, right?

Thanks!

Q: I owned shares in Arena Minerals, which was bought out by lithium Americas. What is my cost base for my LAC shares based on a purchase price of .276 per Arena share. How do I determine that? On my new statement showing the LAC shares the cost base shows as zero. I’ve never been involved in a buyout before. Thanks for the help as always.

Q: Hi team ,
Once again Pinterest is crashing. I was hopeful things were on the uptrend with the name lately. Is this another earnings over reaction? I thought the Amazon partnership was quite interesting for transforming the platform into a e-commerce enabled site…potentially very lucerative once it gets going. But, market not liking results. Should I keep patience with this name or dump? Part of the reason I was holding was I believed this name will be taken over at some point at a much higher share price.

Thanks ,
Shane

Q: Monday I put in an open order to buy CSU, 10 Shares, on opening… The order filled at a price $40.00 dollars higher than their recorded opening price and higher than it had been recorded to trade at, for the last year… The bank ( BNS) tells me that they can do this, as I didn’t order 100 shares ( 1/4 million dollars worth) or put in a limit order…. This smells a lot…

Q: Hi - with WSP release date coming up May10th, what would be your expectations around the coming year? Do you think there is a strong chance that they at least re-affirm the current year expectations? Or do you worry that they are going to be the next in line to lower expectations? Or (crossing fingers) are you confident that their business outlook/backlog is strong? Thank you as always!

Q: Dear Peter,

This question is based on your excellent article in Canadian Money Saver Nov/Dec 2015! How time flies, eh?! Titled: Setting up a US income portfolio with call options.

Several years ago I had asked if you have written any follow articles on this strategy? If you have, please post the links for all of your subscribers. That would be helpful.

But my question is this:
Based on the criteria that you highlighted in that article if you had to choose Five stocks what would those stocks be today?

I am semi retired senior citizen who can allocate 10-15% of my portfolio to this strategy.

Many thanks in advance.
Mano.
