Q: Just a comment to Mike re: TDWaterhouse and the Altagas dividend. TDW rounds off to even cents on its quick quote screen, so ALA's actual dividend rounds up to $0.18 and is reported as such (the dividend received by the investor is accurate). I have also found that sometimes they include a special one-time dividend/distribution in the rolling figure, which can significantly reduce the accuracy of the reported figure. If you find a stock of interest, best to check the company website to confirm the actual dividend payment.

Q: My question is more a general. I am looking at the Tdwaterhouse investments site and I am wondering how they calculate the dividend rate. The company that leads to this question is ALA who's listed dividends are .18 per month or $2.16 /year. The share price was $30.46 and the dividend rate listed is posted as 6.89%.
My calculation would be 2.16/30.46 = 7.09%. Why the difference? Their rate does adjust with the price changes. Does their rate reflect dividends paid in the last year and hence not include dividend increase part way through year or going forward.
As an investor I am interested in the dividend rate going forward. What am I missing. When should dividend increase be reflected.

Q: Hi Team, Is there a Canadian pipeline stock other than TRP which will benefit from the construction of Keystone and completing of DAPL? If there is more than one who benefits the most? Secondly, other than SU which oil companies will benefit the most from Keystone/DAPL?

Q: Atd.b & can.groceries have been on a recent steady decline for various reasons,one of which could be the recent entry of Walmart & Amazon on-line.Today,Amazon stated that there will be a gradual roll out of 2000 stores.Mru,L,Emp.a & Atd.b were initially hit hard,but the first two pared losses in the end.I think Atd.b has lots of stores in US from recent acquisition.Please may I have your current outlook on Atd.b.Is this a entry point?Thanks for u usual great services & views.

Q: SNSR is a U.S. ETF focused on the Internet of Things managed by Global X. I know U.S. isn't your focus, but would appreciate any comments you might be able to provide. Are there other similar ETF's that you would recommend instead and are you aware of any Canadian equivalents ?

Q: Can you please comment on the benefits, if any, of using a monthly income fund for generating a safe monthly income? What kind of return after fund expenses could I expect and are there capital risks? I have equities but am looking for something safer, bonds and GIC's don't seem worth the effort given the low returns. Perhaps what I want (a decent return with minimal risk) isn't available as things are currently. Thanks for the advice, Rob

Q: I have held both Boyd and Enghouse since 2012 and they have both served me well. However of late their share price has stalled and they seem range bound. Would now be a good time to take profits (50%) in both of these companies and use that amount to take an initial position in Shopify?
