Q: Hello,

I had a portfolio with 40 Canadian stocks and it was just too many. For one thing it was too hard to follow them all and because my canadian equities only represent 60% of my portfolio, I didn't benefit much when one of the stocks did well. I've been working towards 25-28 names, selling the ones I don't want as they recover and adding them to the other positions.

I have one too many tech stocks and am trying to figure out which one to drop. I'm starting think it should be CSU as it seems to have topped out and doesn't have much organic growth. What are your thoughts on this?

My current tech stocks are OTC, ESL, CSU, SYZ, GIB, SH and TNC. Yesterday I added to OTC, ESL and SH.

Q: Hello 5i Team,

Could you please suggest a couple solid U.S diversified growth stocks(Berkshire type company) with good management and insider ownership for a long term hold in an RRSP account. I do not follow the U.S market very closely and I was thinking about adding BlackRock(BLK) but perhaps there are better up and coming private equity type companies? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Keith

Q: I own the following stocks with their corresponding weightings in my portfolio.
REI.UN 1.6%, SJ 1.3%, AYA 1.3%, WSP 1.5%, DH 1.8%, ESL 1.2%, D.UN 1.7%, IPL 1.4% and TNC 1.1%
I would like to reduce my holdings and increase the remaining holdings to a minimum of 2%. Along with AYA, which ones would you suggest I get rid of? Which are the best ones to add to?
Thanks for your input RAM

Q: Thinking of dipping my toe back in the energy sector. Many co's stocks have made significant moves already, even following last weekends failed agreement. Vermillion seems to be well regarded, is 50% off it's high and yet hasn't jumped, so would this be a good choice? Are there others similarly lagging the early leaders that are worth considering.
Thanks Peter.

Q: I have a good proportion of my portfolio in the US, so its value is very dependent on the US$/CAN$ exchange rate. Now I would like to increase my investment in energy with a view to a hedge against the rising CAN$. Can you recommend two reliable dividend paying stocks whose value is highly correlated to the CAN$, and which preferably have some growth potential too. I already own SU and CNQ.
Thanks for your help.

Q: Hi,

I recently opened an RESP account for my daughter and am looking for advice on a few ETFs to purchase that provide some long term growth potential, while being appropriately diversified.

Given that i an just starting to save in this account, I'm starting from a small balance, roughly $2,000, i would prefer to only purchase a couple ETFs to limit transaction costs. I have a relatively long time horizon (18 years).

Thanks
