Q: Do you think this etf is a good way to play a “rebound” in the software sector, when it does materialize, as it contains a lot of exposure to the big US companies?
It trades near its low on the year so if things ease up with Iran and the US, could it bounce pretty good?
Q: Last week I was talking to my 80-something neighbour “Jim” (Canadian resident) who recently returned home from his (owned) condo in Arizona.
Over tea this morning Jim’s spouse Susan broadly shared with us her concern of how messy and drawn-out it might be for her personally to dispose of the U.S. property in the event Jim dies before her. Their adult kids want nothing to do with the condo, don’t want to travel to the U.S., and wonder why their parents continue to own instead of lease.
Jim handles the finances and is a strong and silent type. He jokes with me he is immortal because he has no concrete plans of dying. (wtf?..). In his mind, Susan is concerned over nothing because his will transfers everything to her upon his death. Jim changes the subject when Susan asks about the future of the condo. She doesn’t want the stress of settling the disposition in his absence.
Questions:
In your experience,
1)how common is this situation?
2)is there anything Jim (and people in his situation) commonly overlook in this simple plan?
Q: RE: TD Direct Investing - Stock Lending Program
This idea is new to me, and I’m interested in better understanding the concept.
According to the website, the benefit of participating is the interest the person lending their stock receives, which is split 50/50 with TD. There is no indication of what percentage interest you’ll receive. While I understand interest would fluctuate, without a range, it’s hard to determine the actual benefit or whether participation is worthwhile.
For an individual investor.
1) What are the major pros and cons of participating in a program like this?
2) Are there big differences if using a tax-deferred account vs a taxable account?
Q: Normally, I would continue to hold these stocks – CLBT, SNOW, CSU, TRI, OKTA, HUBS, ADSK, KRMN - but all are in the red and I could use some capital losses for tax reporting. BUT all are rated as strong buys with good potential upside by TipRanks. I think only KRMN reports within the next thirty days. Would you sell any today? And would you buy them back in thirty days? Would I be better to wait until closer to the end of the year? Thank you.
Q: I’ve sold out of GSY after a 5 year hold and am wondering about your feeling about lessons learned. It seemed that all the analysts were very positive and expectations were that any operating weakness would be temporary due to the company’s strong performance history.
Do you feel that investors were hoodwinked?
In retrospect could this have been foreseen?
Q: There was a banner on BNN this morning that said our trade deficit widened due to an increase in imports of gold. Who is buying that much physical gold and why is it coming from foreign sources? This seems curious to me. Thanks. Ian
Q: WPM just announced a new streaming agreement. Could you break down the mechanics of how this actually works in simple terms. I am confused as to the purchase of the resources at 20% of spot price. For example, if spot price is $100, does Wheaton pay $20? Thx in advance.
OCI appears very undervalued based on all the companies it has invested in.
Its market cap in only $25 miilion , but if you add up what is owns in the 7+ companies its much higher. thanks
George
Q: Hi, 5i team
I have been holding these US stocks for several years. Do you think they are good for long term holding?
Are these company worth adding positions in recent pullback? If so, what entry points you recommend for them?
Any one you think is a "sell" just in case?
Q: So I am reading an article in The Economist on business development companies ( BDC ) and private credit companies in general which states that “Oaktree allowed 8.5 % of one of its ( BDC ) funds to leave PAYING SOME OF THEM WITH CASH FROM BROOKFIELD ( my caps).
Now BN is always telling us how stable , thoughtful and careful they are with our money and Oaktree and Mr. Marks tells us how so risk adverse they are , but I am ( BN shareholder ) beginning to wonder.
Would you analyze the situation and tell us how much of a problem this could be for BN.
Thanks. Derek.
Q: Hi 5i
I am tempted to sell BEP.UN to buy more BN. BEP.UN is about 1% of port., BN about 1.7%. BEP.UN is at 52 week high and often pulls back to under 40 from here. BN is well off its high so going forward, I see it with better total return potential. Have held both for many years. I am starting to hear rumblings of private equity/private credit/mark to market problems, which make me a little hesitant on BN. Also the BEPC/BEP.UN discrepancy has narrowed somewhat so I'm not sure how this factors in. I look forward to your thoughts.
Thanks, Greg
Q: What are your thoughts on this latest acquisition and after hitting a 52 week low last week ,and where do you rate this company stock between 1-10 and 10 of course being a table pounder …thanks
