After months of negotiating, the federal government and Air Canada announced a deal on Monday that allows the airline to access $5.4 billion in loans while Ottawa takes a $500 million stake in shares at $23.1793, a discount compared to Air Canada's closing price today. If I don't have any Air Canada, should I still buy some? What attractive price should be consider. Please kindly advise the deal, coming target price and any suggestion. Do you consider buy or hold?

Usually when a government bails out a company (Feds will own ~6%), it does not bode well for the said companies future. I know these are unique circumstances. Are you still comfortable with buying Air Canada? Or will AC go the way of bombardier (Zombie stock).

Have you heard if other airlines in Canada will be helped?

I last asked about ASG 3rd week Feb. You cautioned me and rightfully so. I took a small position @ $0.24 based on some research being more than aware of the risk. It went up to over $1.00 and has since settled at $0.84. But now there's something strange going on.

When I look up a quote for the stock it only shows April 8th close. Nothing more recent. MSN Money, Yahoo, even my QTrade acct quotes is as of April 8 @ 3:52pm $0.84.

Thoughts?

Q: There appears to be a continuous downwards trend on both stocks, Canoo apparently misrepresented some facts and there were bookkeeping errors with PLUG accounting. Is it worth keeping these stocks for a 2-3 year time horizon assuming substantial upside potential in stock price from present.

Q: Hello 5i,
As I approach 70 years of age I am trying to prepare for my impending RRSP - RRIF conversion. One move I am considering is to move VIG over a period of years from my RRSP to my TFSA. The rationale is that it is a relatively low dividend stock but the capital appreciation is huge - I am currently up about 76% - and this means the increase in VIG value affects my minimum withdrawal required each year while contributing relatively little in the way of dividend income to cover the mandated minimum withdrawals.
One note - for the past several years we have been taking our TFSA contributions from our RRSP's but seem to always end up with a tax refund anyway, so we are not so concerned with the tax issue on that front.
So, to the question (finally): do you see any problems at all in such a move for VIG or any other U.S. ETF or Global ETF? The withholding tax on U.S. holdings in the TFSA is not an issue. Any other comments or suggestions?
