Q: I have $20000 to invest in an resp account.

Given the ongoing fall in tech stock prices, I would like invest $10,000 to buy tech stocks low and hopefully sell high in 3 years.

Can you provide 5 Canadian stocks and 5 US stocks.

I also want to invest the other $10,000 in less volatile. Companies with a total return of 15% or more. (e.g. Energy, banks, insurance, etc...)

Q: I've heard on a recent podcast that the 'buy and hold' strategy will not work anymore in the current investing environment and that one's holding period shouldn't be more than 10 to 14 months. Would you agree with this?

Q: I’m considering selling Dorel once the dividend is paid. If the stock is sold on the dividend ex-date, who get dividend the buyer of the seller?

Q: I sold DND , DCBO, LSPD in my TFSA prior to Xmas and replaced same with TFII, TSU, and TOI. I sold DND prior to both new acquisitions and LSPD in the $63. dollar range. After this NVEI was hit by the short report and still in my TFSA. Do I pick 1 of DBD, NVEI or LSPD for my 2022 contribution or do you have a better suggestion?

Q: I know there is not a simple/easy answer. I have some pretty good returns in my oil holdings but would like to let them run a bit more. However, between Mike McGlone of Bloomberg (very bearish on oil) and Eric Nuttall and Rafi Tamazian (very bullish) I am conflicted. How are you feeling about the price of oil over the next 6 - 12 months?

Q: Hi 5i,
I wrote inquiring about the above names mid week last week but didn't get an answer - I'm pretty sure i hit submit but possibly not.
I'm down on each - on some significantly - and was looking forward to a post tax loss selling bounce, but none came. In act, all but WELL were down on January 4 before the interest rate news hit on the afternoon of January 5, and all have continued to drop like stones since. I'm concerned that droppage would be happening even if the Fed hadn't scared people about interest rates, and I have the depressing feeling I own a basket of stone losers.
If I sell out of each now and put the funds into some good dividend payers like ENB, SU, POW, BNS I might (hopefully) recoup my losses or at least cut them considerably by this time next year.
For each of the names could you tell me if you think it's a good idea to punt now before further losses accumulate, or are there any that you think have a reasonable prospect of returning to their early to mid 2021 levels by the end of 2022.
I really will appreciate your thoughts and advice - feeling a little beaten up right now ...

Q: Every time I read David Rosenberg, I want to cash out and head for the hills. So far the market has ignored his usually bearish views.

However, his point that 80 % of the stock market growth is based on higher multiples , not higher earnings, caught my interest.
Several questions: is he correct; how far above long term mean are we ; what has caused this; how much of a correction if we revert back to long term mean ?

I am a senior and rely on my investments for a significant part of my income but haven’t pulled the trigger yet ! Thanks. Derek

I know you’ve had many questions about DOC. You don’t really like averaging down. You do think DOC has great potential with some good contracts signed in past few months with good revenue growth through acquisition but it is risky. I’m not risk averse and I have an extensive well-diversified portfolio. I think so too but the stock price keeps dropping like a wet diaper. I’m in with 10,000 shares at an avg price of 1.64. I have time to wait and willing. All things considered…Should I jump in now at .98? Thanks!

Q: Hi All At 5i! So in my eagerness to join the electric vehicle market, I went against my rules and bought the IPO at a higher price, dreams of Tesla stock values running through my Christmas punch addled mind. Well, down now 38%. Lesson learned. So my question... I usually am a long term holder, but hearing that more and more car companies are bringing on electric cars, would it be worth while holding this stock for a while. The sum invested is not immense and holding the stock in the TFSA as I do, I don’t have the advantage of tax loss selling. Cheers, Tamara

In a major market collapse where there is an avalanche of investor redemptions in this ETF, is there any danger(s) to be aware of? i.e. would it actually be less risky investing in perhaps (5) of the top holdings as opposed to the ETF itself in this extreme situation?

I like the idea of a Disrupter investment component within my very diversified portfolio. However, to come up with my own personal yet-to-be-determined weighting, I am trying to get a feel for the risks with this ETF if things were to really, really go south.

What is happening with Tecsys? Is it just the current market conditions bringing town tech related stocks? I would have thought with the current covid situation, Abcellera Biologics would be doing much better but the stock continues to slide? With respect to curaleaf, why is the stock experiencing so much volatility when it is one of the leaders and the revenues are decent? Thanks very much

Q: As a result of the spin off of the enclosed mall portfolio from HR.UN, I now hold shares of Primaris Real Estate PMZ.UN. The holding is much smaller than I normally hold and I am debating whether to sell it or top it up. A press release from PMZ.UN indicates that the present share price of PMZ.UN, about $13.50, but quite volatile, is significantly less than the net asset value per unit NAVPU of about $22. This implies that the potential for the share value to rise in the short to medium term could be quite high. However, the estimation of NAVPU must be a black art in the present market conditions for enclosed malls. My questions are: (1) How are such NAVPU estimates, which are non GAAP numbers, actually made and how valid are such estimates? (2) How high on the risk scale for REITs is PMZ.UN relative to, for example, REI.UN or SRU.UN ?

Q: In this environment are you still OK with ZGQ for growth with the high concentration of Tech & Healthcare? The list of holdings is quite impressive and seems like a good way to a variety of foreign holdings.
With 300 different companies, some US heavy Techs as top holdings and an MER of .51%, and their great returns it seems like a good foreign option for a growth portfolio.
