Q: Just read your article on Direct Indexing and the one thing you did not mention is, should a person presently owning a number of ETF's be concerned or will I eventually sell them off and buy into Direct Indexing in order to save costs?

Q: A friend of mine who works in Venture Capital recently told me about a small tech fund that was being managed by Damien Leonard, Mark Leonard's son. The crazy part - it's the old PineTree Capital, that terrible mutual fund-like investment product that would buy speculative mining companies and ruin shareholder capital. The Leonard family home office (incl. some of Mark's cash) now owns over 30% of the company. Upon doing some research, it looks like the company is trading at a 25% discount to book value although the new tech investments are not disclosed.
What are your thoughts? Would this be an appropriate 1% position (despite low liquidity) knowing that very few people understand investing in software companies like Mark Leonard, Damien's biggest mentor?

Q: I have just sold TSGI (at a 50 percent loss) and was thinking of adding to my GC position.
Haven't seen many stand alone questions about GC lately. Wondering what your current thoughts are, when they are due to report, and expected results
Thanks
Phil

Q: Can I please get your thoughts on AMTD? What percentage of revenues came from trading commissions? Do you think that revenue can be replaced by selling order flows or by other means in the short term (~18 months)?
The company seems to be incredibly profitable and has a large net cash position as well. The recent large drop appears overdone. I am considering purchasing a 4% long term position in a registered account for preferable dividend treatment. Thanks.

Q: Most companies report earnings after market. Some choose to report before market. Are these usually long term policy decisions or do firms choose on a Q by Q basis? And should we read anything into it when a firm chooses to report before market?
Thanks,

Thanks

Q: Which of these do you think is less economically sensitive? Which one would you prefer?
Q: Every now and then I do a complete review of my portfolio to determine what changes if any I should make. With so much dependent on political conditions and monetary policy, as well as my age , I find it challenging. I would like a second opinion.
I’m 83 years of age alert and physically fit and in good health. My wife is 73. Objective is to earn income to supplement a guaranteed income of $51000 travel and leave enough for my wife live comfortably. Retired teacher, had a 13 year second career as a financial advisor. Retired from that career 15 yrs.
Portfolio is valued at $600,000 , annual yield approximately $25,000.
Two RRIFS valued @ $46000
Two TFSAS valued @ $ 132000
Non registered valued @ 365,000
Cash $60,000

Holdings in TFSAS AQN,CPX,PNG,QSR,VGG,VET,ENB,ARX
Non registered
ARE, ALA,AD,ARX,CSH.UN,ECN.PR.A,ENB,EIF,PNG,PKI,PPL,QSR, ROXG,VET,BPY,LSPD
Combined portfolio % in each security
ARE-3.2%-,AD-3.5%, ALA-7%,ARX-4.2%,BPY-2.6%,CsH.UN-4.4%, ECN.PR.A-9.3%, ENB-8%, EIF-4.7%, PNG10%, LSPD-4.2%, PKI,4.9%,PPl-3.9%, QSR-3.2%, ROXG-2%,VET-4.7%,CPX-4.3%,AQN3.5%,VGG-5%,WMT-5%
I have some concerns about VET down a fair bit but looks a little better on a total return basis. PNG up over 40% on realized and unrealized returns. Now showing some earnings now will probably sell at $1.00. One of my gambles.ROXG probably not one of my better choices. I like to gamble a little bit.
Any thoughts you would like to share with me and your clients.

Any changes you would suggest would be greatly appreciated.

Q: Mid 70s couple with our largest (8%) holding SLF. With current trend of lower interest rates would you advise to move on to better options or trim profits. We need to increase our dividends to balance our rrif withdrawals.
Please suggest better options for future total returns. Thanks

I am trying to compare PSA to TDB8150
My problem is I have already $100K in TDB8150 in my Cash acct and would like to put additional cash funds somewhere, ideally with CDIC protection. I have no more room in TFSA and RRIF accounts. So I am wondering if it is ok to just exceed the $100K amount in TDB8150 since PSA is not CDIC insured anyway. I am not interested in GICs or T-bills as these are not really liquid. Do you have any suggestions? The difference between TDB8150's 1.6% and PSA's 2.14% [or 1.74%?] seems trivial at this time when safety of principal is paramount.
I am very confused about PSA because Yahoo! gives the following data on PSA;
Net Assets 2.1B
Yield 2.16%
YTD Daily Total Return 1.74%
Beta (3Y Monthly) 0.00
Expense Ratio (net) 0.15%
Inception Date 2013-10-15
Does the yield vary from 2.16% ? I see on Aug 06 19 you said PSA has a "2.37% indicated yield", not the 2.16% mentioned in Yahoo. Why does Yahoo indicate a YTD Daily Total Return of "only" 1.74%. What yield do I actually get?
The price of PSA starts each month at $50.00 and rises in 9 or 10 steps a cent at a time during the month to end the month at $50.09 or $50.10 then drops back to $50.00 at the start of the next month. Are the earnings [interest] accumulated during the month and only paid out at month end? Is the payment in cash to one's brokerage account or are more units issued or the cash reinvested?
Thank you.......... Paul K

Q: Hello,
I have held SMAR and is underwater, would it make sense to switch to AYX or do you have a better suggestion. Between SMAR and AYX which company is less expensive and has better growth?
Thanks

Q: I am currently down 55% on WEED. I am wondering if I should sell and take my losses now, before tax loss selling, or leave it and ride it out for several years. There is no advantage to me to sell for a tax loss because this is in my TFSA. Thank you!
