Q: Along the lines of thinking one or two big winners can make up for a lot of lower percentage gains in a portfolio, I have let a couple stocks run well past 5% of my total stock allocation. I realize any stock can get hit hard quickly and understand the risk I am taking. My employment takes me away from watching or being able to trade a security for up to 5 days at a time. In this situation would you use stop loss, if so a thought on the percentage drop to set it at and does the size of company effect the number. SHOP, LSPD, PEO are a few of my considerable overweight's.

Q: Hello 5i,
I need to increase the following: ABBVIE, CCL, AQN. ENB. LSPD. and TCL. Some like LSPD I hold as a satellite as I am mostly a value investor but will take advantage of your suggestions on a good growth opportunity but smaller scale than my value equities. Please list the above in the order that I would slowly increase these holdings by $2,000 at a time.
thank you
Stanley

Q: Follow-up to Shirley's question about high interest savings accounts, best rates and Manitoba locales. I use rate hub to get best rates. Location only enters the picture if you are investing more than $100k. Manitoba offers unlimited coverage where elsewhere is covered by CDIC $100k. Once you select the institution you want to deal with, call them to get details on setting up an account and to get comfortable with their operation. Manitoba credit unions generally have regular office hours customer service (no weekends).
Q: Gentlemen, good morning.
I am searching a Canadian (global) actively managed broad market bond fund. Like US FBND.

Q: I have been looking at some rate reset preferred shares with a floor rate that are trading at a discount and have a relatively short time to their 5-year maturity (a couple examples being ALA.PR.I or ECN.PR.A). What price moves would you expect as maturity nears, if rates are trending down, or are lower than today? How likely are these companies to renew for 5 years at the floor v simply redeeming them and re-issuing a new preferred with a lower rate? Are you aware of any rate resets with a floor that have reached their 5 years, and what did the company do (ideally any PF-3 rated preferreds).
Thanks

Beyond Meat Inc. (BYND $3.10)
Q: When trying to find the next stock with great returns like, Shopify or Beyond Meat what or where should one look.
I'm guessing something disruptive with greater than 30% revenue growth.
I have been cruising news articles and used stock screeners and haven't found anything recently. I'm guessing that a vegan fast food restaurant chain would take off similar to Chipotle and Noodle Co. did years ago.
Any companies or thoughts?

Q: Please comment on their latest earnings. I sense they are making progress on the debt reduction but revenues appear weak compared to prior year. Is the revenue drop the result of selling off portions of the company to reduce debt or is there some other reason? Backlog seems to be smaller but not horribly so which may be a positive. Not sure why they are keeping their 0.01 USD dividend other than public relations I suppose. I suspect MAXR needs to make itself smaller if it wants to show a profit and it appears management has put the company on that road.
I no longer own any shares but am still mildly interested. Without sustained revenue / profitability growth it would be too risky to jump in.
Thanks,
Jim

Q: How do you see earnings of MCR which were released last night.
It appears to be a beat. They seem to have cut their operating expenses
a lot from the previous quarter on a percentage basis.

Q: Good morning...I have searched the internet and found the payout ratio of fsz at 60.62% is that correct. I have a 3% weighting in this stock and love the dividend as I am a senior that uses that dividend for expenses. Do you view a 3% weighting in this company proper considering its valuation and payout ratio...thank you..gene

Q: Hi Peter and Ryan,
OGI will be graduating to the TSX on August 22nd.
Why would this have a positive impact on the stock that it did not have while listed currently under the venture exchange?
Thanks

Pembina Pipeline Corporation (PPL $51.41)
-
Kinder Morgan Canada Limited restricted voting shares (KML $14.91)
Q: Hello 5i Team
The market has announced a takeover of Kinder Morgan Canada by Pembina Pipeline. The deal indicates that holders of KML will receive 0.3068 shares of PPL per 1.0 KML shares.
The Pembina news release indicates the value of the KML shares for the deal is $15.02 and the Kinder Morgan Canada news release indicates the value for the KML shares for the deal is $15.12.
The current price for PPL this morning is approximately $49.00 and the current price for KML is approximately $14.77. Therefore KML is trading slightly below the offer price ($49.00 x 0.3068 = $15.03). The deal is not anticipated to close until 1rst quarter of 2020.
I own both PPL and KML, however in separate accounts.
Based on today's prices, PPL is yielding 4.8 % and KML now yields 4.3 % (down from 5.9 % prior to merger announcement).
The deal does not indicate whether KML will continue to pay dividends in Nov 2019 and Feb 2020. Is this correct?
Should I sell my KML today and reinvest in a completely different security (I do not wish to own PPL in the account I held KML in) or wait until the merger occurs and then sell the PPL shares I receive).
Thanks
