Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Good morning from fabulous and sunny Palm Desert, California! Could you please give me an opinion on Liberty Expedia. Is this the time to buy for future growth, or do you see something wrong with the stock? I tend to buy companies that I use, if I think the timing is right, and see this as an alternative to Priceline.

So glad your site is back up and running. I missed you like I miss my luggage!

Thanks, Susan

Q: Hi, Wondering if you are able to provide any general thoughts on holding SEMUF (Siem Industries) in a portfolio for O&G/Shipping exposure. My thesis for owning has been to get in well below book value in a company that is run by management that has compounded over the long term (Kristian Siem). My concern is with lack of liquidity but plan to hold long term. Just wondering if you have any general thoughts or considerations or concerns in this type of name?

Q: Hi, Looking at HMF for some exposure to Managed Futures for diversification and for an alternative asset somewhat uncorrelated to equities. Wondering your thoughts on this ETF as an option for getting Managed Futures exposure?

My concerns are it has underperformed the benchmark it tracks, net assets appear low and total expenses including trading fees appear high (2.6%).

Would there be any other Mutual Funds or ETF (Canada / USA) you could suggest to get access to Managed Futures? Or alternatively provide your thoughts on Managed Futures strategy in general.

Q: As part of a diversified stock portfolio, I own all all of the stocks in the B E model with approx 2.5% position in each. I want to rebalance my fixed income to stock percentage. Because I have done well following your advice( thankyou, ) I have enough cash to either add 1 % to each stock in the B E model, or would you suggest a higher weighting in some favorite names in the B E model that you like at this time?

Q: Talk of a dividend cut has been circulating for a while. Down $9 bucks a share on this behomoth! Is this what the street will be happy with--a dividend cut so that they can start growing? Would you hang on for an eventual turnaround or buy something (suggestion?) similar industry but growing. Thanks.

Q: Regarding the asset allocation of the income portfolio, what does N/A at 7.86% represent? In addition, generally speaking, where have you included CPD,CVD and XHY? If I excluded CPD, CVD and XHY and recalculated the remaining sector %'s, would the adjusted asset allocation work by substituting larger companies for some of the smaller cap names to decrease the volatility? Thanks

Q: What is your opinion on QYLD for US tech exposure. Management fee is a .60% with a 7.4% yield. I know I'm capping the upside with the covered calls but if there is such a thing as a " Sleep at night " stock in the " tech " sector. Would this be one ? Also for a one stop shop for the rest of the US would VIG be a good choice or do you have another preference ?
