Q: I am a retired investor and rely upon the dividends in my RRIF for income. I have owned FSZ for many years and while it pays a nice dividend (8%) it has not grown, in fact its down since I purchased it. I want to replace it.

The listed stocks pay dividends ranging from 3.9% to 5.1%. My question is which of the stocks would make a good replacement with the dividend and growth profile that will exceed the dividend of FSZ. Please list with the best first and also indicate if the risk is higher or lower than FSZ.

I have been a member for a few years now and would like to congratulate you on your service and unbiased answers. It definitely has been financially rewarding for me.

Q: I just noticed on my transaction history, as did Geoff (Dec. 17), that a sizable portion of the money I received for Dream Global is listed as a dividend. I too had assumed the transaction to be mostly a capital gain, and sold VET at a loss to offset the gain. If this $10 per unit truly is a dividend, then I, like many others I`m sure, will have a big chunk of unexpected taxable income to choke on! (The circular did mention a bit of an extra distribution without mentioning an amount, but made it sound modest.) For me, as a senior of modest income, this`ll mean a year of lost government benefits. Live and learn, eh. Next time, just sell as soon as the offer is made!

Q: Hi,

Having sold DRG.UN & CGX, I'm sitting on some cash.

Could you give me your top 5 relatively safe, relatively high dividend/distribution paying choices to replace these?

Sector is not important. Getting a benefit from companies whose price is depressed due to tax loss selling is a bonus but not critical.

Thanks,

Gord

Q: Can you help me?! I just received the proceeds from the buyout of Dream Global. About $10 of the 16.79 price is designated as a dividend in my transaction history. The press release says it is an all cash transaction. I had planned, with this transaction, to realize a certain level of capital gains for 2019. If this $10 shows up on my tax slip as a dividend that throws my planning out the window and I only have a few days to rectify.

Itrade says they can’t help as does the transfer agent.

I hold these 4 REIT's in my RRIF. Do you have any suggestions for replacing DRG?
Thanks, Bryn

Q: I wrote to you on Thursday, asking if you could recommend a couple of ETFs holding Chinese companies, one US and one CAD. I have not yet heard back from you. I also wonder if you could recommend one or two CAD REITs. I have none in my portfolio. Something that will continue to do well in a down economy is my preference.
Thank you.

I notice that when I wrote on Thursday, it said I had 65 questions, and now I have 64. But since my question was not answered, or at least, I was not notified that it was answered, this seems a bit odd.

Q: Good Day Team,
Presently I have no REITSs in my portfolio, so hoping to add some.
What is the best step to take?
Put equal amounts in all 6 stocks listed or put in priority order with certain percentage in each. I have $5000. to invest in REITs.
Secondly, what order would you put them in, from best to the lowest.
Lastly, is there any REIT that you would change or add that may be better.
Please use extra credits as needed.
Thank You,
John G.

Q: I am planning to hold both of these securities, but would like to put one in a cash account and one in a registered account.
