Q: Good morning. I’m looking to invest in either BPE or AQN, both of which companies you are positive about. I’m looking at the respective yields ( 6.6 vs 4.2) and am wondering about that disparity. If risks is correlated to reward, does that mean BPE is more risky and if so, why is that? I notice that BPE is showing negative EPS and that makes me wonder how they can sustain such an attractive dividend yield. Thanks

Q: Hi,
I am struggling with a decision and would appreciate your opinion please. I would like to increase my US and International equity exposure using ETFs in US dollars that I already own (VIG and VXUS).
The Canadian dollar is obviously very weak right now. Does it make sense to convert Canadian dollars to US and adding to US dollar ETFs right now, or should I be using equivalents that trade in Canadian dollars? If the latter, would you kindly suggest the two ETFs that I should consider?
I know you like foreign currency as another form of diversification and I agree. I realize there is a FX prediction inherent in this question: if the CDN dollar strengthens, that creates headwinds for US-denominated investments.
What do you suggest?
Thank you. Michael

Q: Can you comment on the prospects and yield for this new listing
Q: Hello 5i,
Us health and cad health stocks give me a headache ! My list of dogs is long and they bite. I’ve even held ibb for three years and sold it at a loss in December! (Gain on the currency- only).
1) should I keep ILMN after this most recent report or technically is it too about to bite?
2) not including big pharma, is there a US asset 5i can suggest that is not too expensive yet shows promise?
Thank you!

Q: Recently, I took over a financial advisor managed portfolio, which included these two mutual funds. Since I prefer ETFs instead, I wonder which ETFs might be most suitable to replace these funds.
Thank you, as always!

Q: KL has been a favourite of yours for quite a while now. It's performance has been stellar and an all star on the TSX. (Don't know why you didn't put it in one of your portfolios). Even the stellar performing Resolute Fund had KL as one of its major focused holdings.
I believe Eric Sprott was a major investor here. My question is, what is the next KL that you know of?
Thanks in advance.
Sheldon

Q: I am wondering what price do you use as the sold price to calculate performance when you take a company out of of your portfolio. For example CLS was recently taken out. May I know which price would you use for performance calculations ? Thanks
Q: I currently hold toy in an unregistered account and am down slightly. I would like to move it into my TFSA. What would you recommend?
1. Buy in the TFSA first and wait 30 days
2. Sell in the unregistered account and wait 30 days to buy in the TFSA
3. Or transfer into the TFSA and forego the tax loss
4. Wait for Toy to reach cost and then transfer into TFSA
Thx,
Kc

Q: I'm considering starting a position in SIA or CSH.un for a long term hold (5+ yrs) based on aging demographics etc. On a total return basis which do you think is the better play in a cash account?
Q: I am looking to recession-proof my TFSA with stable companies like Chartwell Retirement Residences and Park Lawn Corp. But my stock chart shows Chartwell collapsing from $14 to $4 in 2008/9, taking until 2016 to recover. Park Lawn doesn't seem to be listed that far back (but I note your report describes it as "recession-proof." Would you recommend Chartwell despite the 08/9 numbers and does your assessment of PLC mean that it would be relatively unaffected by a similar market meltdown?

Vanguard FTSE Global All Cap ex Canada Index ETF (VXC)
Q: Hi,
I am trying to choose between these 2 ETFs for global coverage ex-Canada. They seem pretty similar but XAW invests in US ETFs while VXC invests directly in companies. Is there a fiscal disadvantage in XAW (to be held in cash account)?
Thanks

Q: I am close to retirement and am interested in purchasing a conservative, safer, ETF to be held for the forseeable future in an investment (not registered) account. I am looking for a non-Canadian equity investment, and do not necessarily seek high dividends. What is your opinion of the "dividend aristocrats" investment strategy and of the DGRO-N ETF? Is there a better ETF which suits my investment goals which you would recommend?
Thank you for all of the excellent advice which your service offers!

Q: Hi 5i,
I know that US stocks are not the main focus but I have been watching Resmed for awhile and saw that it tanked 20% the other day on an off earnings report. This looks to have been a fairly strong stock over the last few years. Any comments you can make on them? Would they fit in your US growth stock list?
Thank you

Q: Hello,
Could you please comments on MKSI Q4 results and outlook. Do you think if it is worth hold? If not, could you please recommend two US stocks in semi sector.
Thanks

Q: Recent results were disappointing, and your previous comments about the company are not good, yet the stock is seeing a nice bump up. Is there any information on the company to justify this rise.
Q: Can I have your opinion on BTI. It has always made a comeback in the past.
I think the dividend is reasonably safe. Good time to buy?
Thanks Gord
