Q: Hi Guys just to circle back on a question I answered and you replied in the last day or so. I'm sorry I should of been more specific, I'm looking for a growth mutual fund for a 25 year old that will be adding to often and therefore don't want any trading costs involved with buying ETF's, the 2 that you suggested are XWD and VT. Looking for mutual funds and not ETF.
Thank-you
Q: Following close scrutiny of the available information to date, I have decided to support Johnathan Goodman in his battle with Medison. This is essentially a war between two men as no one else at Knight or Medison has more than 35000 shares (one person) and the rest have basically none. Goodman has double the number as Medison. I predict Goodman will add to his position before May 7 - he could afford as many shares as he wants/needs to succeed.
However, kudos to Jakobsohn, despite my extreme cynicism towards his motives - he will control the 28% of his company that knight owns plus get control of almost $800M in cash that he did NOT raise, Goodman did - as this process has unquestionably devalued Goodman's reputation and I am sure he will be working at full potential to restore it and long before his tired grandchildren timeline evolves. When/if he wins, he could do a $2B deal the next day as raising any extra funds would receive widespread market support. Can Jakobsohn claim the same?
Q: I know that your firm does not espouse/research such high risk companies such as this but given Fipke's track record, do you feel a small position is warranted given his latest find in the Yukon? The price and volume suggest even non-retail investors are stepping in?
Q: How much cash does Gud have compared to its market cap and do they have any growing cash generating product. Thinking of selling position and splitting the proceeds with zynex and viemed.
Q: Like many long suffering investors, I am really getting fed up with this stock. I watched a recent interview on BNN with Jonathan Goodman and was not impressed. He had an opportunity to justify why GUD was a public company and completely failed to do so. His message seemed to be if you are not investing for your grandchildren's financial future you might as well forget this stock. I think GUD should at least initiate an initial and rising dividend policy since it has failed to invest much of the large pool of cash being reserved for acquisitions. What do you think of these odds. Thanks.
Portfolio analytics is suggestion that I go 75/25 equity to income and from the 75% equity to allocate 35% into US, 35% in International and 30% into CND. Suggested ETFs for US and International are VUN, VIU and VEE. How would you view instead of holding three funds I go with one, either VXC or XAW? Or do you feel that is too much into just one ETF Also, which one is better suited for an RRSP account.
Q: Because of the usurious rates of tax charged by the federal and provincial governments, I wonder whether you are aware of any entities, apart from REITS and other income trusts, that distribute substantial amounts of their income as ROC. I would very much appreciate any such list. Thank you.
Q: I find it odd that Vermillion is not moving up with the price of oil. Some of the other oil companies are moving up nicely-any speculation as to why?
Q: Hi 5i,
I think there are some very good F-Class mutual funds available but, one can only purchase them through an advisor. How can one become certified as a mutual fund advisor and purchase F-class funds for their own account? I am retired and don't mind taking courses to become certified. Does this makes sense and can you point me to the right web sites to learn more about this?
thanks
Q: I am not receiving my daily emails even though I have it marked to receive them. I was hacked a while ago and maybe I am now unsubscribed. Istgere a way to get them back. Thank you.
Q: Hello 5i
I've not been impressed with CDZ's performance of late. I see that you keep recommending it even though their fees are higher due to better diversification. I believe they've been hurt recently by one large holding that went south, AGF I think. I'm puzzled by all this so what advice do you have? Is there alternative in this segment for a long term hold?
Q: looking for an S&P 500 ETF with low fees. do you prefer a hedged or unhedged ETF? i am considering the ZSP and TDB902 or any other you would recommend. 20 year time horizon.
Q: Just a quick comment. I read your answer at Manoj on edg100.
you seem a little biais on Vt. you mention the advantage on C$ 0n 10y performance.
At the end of mars 2009, the C$ was at 1,2576, now around 1,33 (5-6% difference total), that's not just explain more than 2% overperformance net of fee.
Q: I have about 10K of NFI and I'm down about 20% on it (paid close to 12K). Thinking on selling half of my NFI (5K) and using proceeds to buy 5K of Linamar. To spread the risk and also hoping to leverage the potential upside in LNR. NFI pay a 5% dividend though which is attractive (I don't need the dividends yet but at least I get paid to wait). Your thoughts on this ? Stick with NFI or split it between NFI and LNR (I guess which has the better potential for capital appreciation ?).
BTW - Love the new portfolio tools...keep up the good work.
Q: With the analytics package , one can not monitor his spouse’s portfolio separately . I find this frustrating as my wife’s age , income, and circumstances are different than mine... I use a different , safer strategy for her portfolio. I guess this is similar to the question by the person who didn’t want to include RESP in his analytics . Thanks , Tom
