Q: Want to generate some cash in a RESP. overweight oil and gas in this fund. trying to decide what to sell. Do I trim a little from white cap, head water, and freehold or sell reits.

Q: I recently put together a spreadsheet that pulls together all of the Canadian equity holdings that my wife and I have in our registered and non-registered accounts.

This is what we have in the Oil & Gas Sector:

• the three majors SU, CVE and CNQ
• the three pipes TRP, PPL and ENB
• and an assortment of other companies TOU, WCP, ARX, ALA, TPZ, MDI, MER

I’d like to trim this back to 6-8 holdings and, as well, have more of a balanced profile. What would you recommend? And if there are different O&G stocks you’d sub in, please recommend as well.

Q: Back in the spring I bought into WCP at about a 1% position, which worked out well (so far). I am considering bumping this up to about a 2% position. Do you have any information about their payout percentage and how low oil could go before the dividend is at risk? I would appreciate any other general comments about WCP, and in particular, would you buy today.

Q: Question about a safer monthly-dividend ETF for my TFSA

To whom it may concern,

Hi, it’s Mark again. I’m a 5i Research member and I have a question similar to ones I’ve asked in the past.

I currently hold a large position in Whitecap Resources for the monthly dividend, but I’m looking for something that is likely a bit safer. You have provided some ETF recommendations to me before, but when I look at the long-term charts (10–15 years), many of those dividend-paying ETFs are trading below where they were back then, which is a bit concerning.

Could you please suggest what you consider to be the safest ETF—either American or Canadian—that I could hold in my TFSA, which pays a monthly dividend roughly comparable to Whitecap?

Q: Hi,
Have 1.3% in VHI and 0.9% in WELL. If you had to consolidate into one position, which would you choose? WELL has been frustrating as it goes on these big runs and then pulls back and can't seem to get any traction, whereas VHI seems more of a steady long term compounder that is in a nice uptrend which has pulled back and looks like a good opportunity to add now. Would you continue to diversify and hold both or consolidate now and just hold VHI?

Also have small positions <1% in TVE and WCP and would like to consoidate. Is the difference in whether an investor wants more growth (TVE) or income (WCP)? Which one do you see having more growth going forward? Already own TOU. Thank you!
