Q: I am considering triming the following stocks ALA, BDT, CVE, EFN, GSY, GWO, IAG, MEG, PEY, TVE, TVK, WCP and X. If I do trim, there will be significant Capital Gains. How would you rank them for total return over the next 2 years? How would you rank them for trimming and if different than above ranking, please advise the reason for the difference ? Thanks

Q: Whitecap has crept up to 5.5% position in my portfolio and is now my 3rd biggest position. This is in part due to the combing with Veren.

I believe they have a good management team and balance sheet is fairly decent.

The dividend is quite nice as well.

If I think there is room to move is it too risky letting this run to 7% or is it time to rebalance and take a bit off the table.

If you can't give personal advice;)

Hypothetically if you had a 5.5% position in WCP would you let it run and monitor or trim it up a bit;)

Q: Good morning,

I am thinking of taking a capital loss on TOU, and with the proceeds buy WCP for 30+days. Plan is to take 2 months of the monthly dividend of WCP, and then buy TOU back in early September ahead of the $0.50 ex-dividend date. I know I will miss the TOU $0.35 dividend next month with this strategy, but from purely a dividend payout strategy, it is accretive.

Anything I am missing with this strategy?

Q: I'm looking into the future of a Carney Government that might enable the CO2 -EOR(Enhanced Oil Recovery) and how that might help Whitecap(WCP) and Pembina (PPL).

I know in order for it to happen he has to lift the exclusion of EOR from (Bill-59) and streamline it for specific projects via national interest projects, amend assessment and emission laws to reduce regulatory friction(a key request from oil companies) and revise carbon pricing by incentivizing EOR as a CO2 storage pathway possibly with credit stacking.

If the government is able to do this, how lucrative will this be for stocks especially Whitecap (WCP) which operates the Weyburn-Midale CO2 EOR project, the world's largest and longest running CO2 flood in Saskatchewan and Pembina(PPL) who is collaborating to build the Alberta Carbon Grid to transport captured CO2 to oilfields for EOR and sequestration.

Based on this would they be a long term buy today because Carney is now PM?

Q: I was alerted that Whitecap is terminating it's U.S. reporting obligations what is the reason?

Q: The recent NPI quarter looks pretty weak, decreased revenues from last year. I’m thinking to take a loss and possibly add to other positions, or would you recommend to repurchase after the 30 days? I read the March report, but I see better opportunities in other names. The growth story for 2025 is only the Oneida Energy Storage Project completion? How much will this add to revenues? I’m also concerned the allure around renewables and the climate change narrative is crumbling, especially after the Europe outages. Any thoughts on this?

My add to names I’m considering are PPL, CPX, PEY, WCP. How would you rank those for growth, stability, current and future yield?

Do you have a preference between these for overall performance over the next couple of years, ie capital gain plus dividends and why. With LNG becoming a thing, I wonder if that swings it to TOU. Your comments would be appreciated. Also, what would you expect the total percent dividend going forward for TOU, including quarterly and special.

Q: Would you consider taking a 27% hit on whitecap for tax loss and replace it with Bep.un to get the 7% yield I was getting with white cap before the nose dive. Do you consider the dividend to be secure along with better growth? Tks. Larry

Q: It has been suggested that this time of volatility is a good opportunity for upgrading the quality of one’s investments. It has also been suggested that one not panic and do anything precipitously. I currently hold WCP and TVE, not surprisingly at a considerable loss; many commentators point to CNQ as top grade. What is your view of selling the 2 and replacing with CNQ - switch or hang tough? Many thanks.

What’s your take on the oil sector in Canada currently? Currently oil prices, sentiment is low for various known reasons. However , in this cycle would you consider the sector near bottom yet? And any potential catalysts on the horizon? With potential of new government possibly coming in by year end (conservatives ) , and a hopefully new wake up call for all of Canadian politicians and policy makers hopefully leaning towards a more self sustainable country and development of our resources and pipelines; would you consider this a opportune time to buy a quality oil stock? In specific I was looking at Wcp after its recent added drop after its acquisition. I am looking at a 8.7% dividend with possible upside potential if sentiment recovers . Would you buy this name today considering I have almost 0 sector exposure currently ? If not; a better name from today’s levels suggested?

Q: I understand that WCP and VRN have announced a merger in an all stock deal to take place in May 2025.
