Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I have found that my best returns are when I reduce my portfolio size to 8-10 stocks.I know that according to almost all experts that my portfolio would not be properly diversified.I find that a investor such as myself can not spend the amount of time needed to keep up to a 20 stock portfolio.
The easy answer of course is to hire someone for my investments, but I have unfortunately been burned twice by investment professionals, and unwilling to strike out the third time.
Is there anything wrong with keeping a 8-10 stock portfolio, where I can keep a close watch on the news and the financials.
I personally think that is why your site is so helpful because the average investor do not have the resources and staff of a professional money manager.

Q: I am making a few adjustments to my SDRIF in order to improve yield. Many of my holdings are either from your Income or Balanced Portfolios. Included are 2 stocks, ESL & SJ, which I also hold in other accounts but would like to replace with stocks that have a 4%+ yield and with a small cap appreciation. I was thinking ABT to replace ESL. For SJ, I was thinking of increasing my very small holdings in either BCE or T. Is there any reason that you think these are bad choices at this time and/or would you have any strong alternative suggestions ?
Many thanks as always

Q: Starting a new portfolio of higher risk stocks to offset my more strategic long term investments. I have listed several juniors that are either in your Growth Portfolio or have been lately receiving considerable attention. Would appreciate your comments, order of preference & recommandations. Please deduct whatever number of credits you feel appropriate. Thank you.

Q: Own HLF took the ride down and back up at a nice profit but is there anymore left. Like the rationnalisation story im progress. Dowgraded at Scotia this morning due to price runup but it looks cheap to me on a forward p/e basis ? Thinking of maybe switching to PBH which is a lot more expensive on p/e basis.
Would like your take on these stocks ?
Thanks for the ongoing learning process !
