Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Thank you for the great service. I was wondering in the HOT space of EV's are there any standout companies either producing a vehicle you like as an investment or an infrastructure play for charging stations or battery production? I have listed some of the companies I have on a list but I own nothing in this space... Really wishing I had bought Tesla 10 years ago when first looking at it... As they say could of would of should Have. I try never to look back but sometimes it is tough LOL

Q: I made a typo on a direct investing account and bought Alaris in ERR. I left the holding as was. Now, a few weeks later, I fell off my chair when I saw it has only 16 employees. Do you know anything about management’s ability and track record? I like the business model but wonder if the tiny team is such that it loves the thrill of risk so much that it gets drunk on it. ( I have known such teams at startups I bought in private placements. I have paid dearly for my lack of innoculation-- <shudder> ).

Q: My question is about BNSand SHOP which are both in your balanced portfolio.
SHOP trades much more in the US than Canada (1.5M to .2M).

On the other hand BNS trades much more in Canada than US (4.5M compared
to .3M).
Why are some inter-listed stocks trade more on one exchange than the other?

Is it because SHOP has issued more shares on the US side compared with BNS to account for this?
Thanks

Q: Hi, My respected 5i team
I bought these stocks back in March or April 2020 during the market correction, thanks for your recommendation!
Right now, the upward momentum of these high tech stocks are diminishing and their valuations seems high.
What is your opinion about the valuations here, are they over valued too much? I'm worried about the "tech bubble" happens again. Should I sell them now or under what condition you suggest that I should sell ?

Q: I hold A&W and CSH in my non registered trading account at a small gain. From a tax point of view would it make sense to move to my RRSP so the distribution(dividends) are not taxed as interest? I have contribution room in my RRSP.

Thanks Greg

Q: I am a fairly new investor and was wondering your thoughts on when to begin diversifying? I own approximately 15 companies, mostly being TECH and Financial. Recently bought NVDA shares and am looking at U, CRWD and LSPD but not too sure when I should approach other sectors and look at companies like COST or TT for example. I would be targeting my RSP in this approach. (Not sure if that matters)

Also, your must own top 3 US/CND stocks for the next 25+ years for a TFSA?

Thanks for all that you do
Nick

Q: Hi, my respected 5i team
Similar to my last question, these 3 high teck stocks are Canadian.
What do you think about the valuations here and are they still safe to hold?

Q: Hello 5i
I'm hearing a lot of chatter about small caps having good growth prospects going forward. I believe you like IWO for US small caps.
Can you suggest 5-6 of your favorite US stocks to hold as a basket of small caps instead of IWO if one wanted to own stocks directly.
Thank you so much!!
Dave

Q: COLD is included in “RBC's Top 30 Global Ideas- Q1 2021” ( released 4 Jan 2021). I compared COLD to COR and COR struck me as a better investment. RBC rates COLD Outperform and COR as sector perform. I read through the usual blurbs and recent year financials as well as generally available projections. CFRA rates both as Hold (neutral). I looked through Thomson Reuters and I think COLD has higher ratings in general (I am not sure as it is difficult to tell when the TR reports on each were actually updated).

It is unlikely RBC Capital would have picked COLD as a global best idea without studying COLD’s peers. I conclude therefore that I must be missing something. Which one of the two do YOU see as the better investment? (Important : If neither, please give names of OTHER US Industrial REITs that you prefer OVER the above-noted COLD and COR).
