Q: I took a position in BLOK:US on the recommendation of a contributor to your Canadian Money Magaine (BTW I give each of my three children a subscription for Christmas becasue it is simply the best financial advice product anywhere). The thesis of the nvestment was to participate in AI for the future. I put it away as a long term investment. BLOK has been showing extraordianary growth lately. I'm not sure why? Is there a specific reason? Is it a long term hold or a sell opportunity? David

Q: The top ten positions in my equity portfolio represent 30% of the portfolio. Among these top ten are TD, BAM, BAC and JPM. The financial sector represents 27.5% of the equity portfolio and the 5i analysis suggests that this be reduced to 15%. I am a new 5i client and don’t disagree with the direction the model is suggesting. Other holdings in the financial sector are: BMO, BNS,CG,C,MFC,PYPL,PNC,RY,SLF,BX,X,V. This is a bit messy but adding to the sector in the spring seemed like and was a good idea but now we need to be more conventional. I may be very wrong but I don’t consider BAM and X as financial services, particularly BAM. Looking at the holdings, what would you unload to bring down the financial sector exposure? Obviously a tax filter will be needed at my end. The question for another day will be an ask for recommendations to increase the under-weighted sectors. Having fun with the model and more importantly find it useful.

Q: Hi 5i,
In a US dollar account (non-reg) I have about 1.25% of my overall portfolio sitting in cash.
My approach with this account is to buy stocks that I don't have to sell for a long period of time and therefore have capital gains.

In my overall portfolio I already own Alphabet (4%),Apple (4%), Amazon (2.5%), Disney (2%), Facebook (1.5%), Microsoft (2.5%), Paypal (0.5%), Tesla (7% soon to be trimmed) Visa (4%).
Given what I already own (and that I would like a stock that is a long term 5-10 year hold) would you add to anything from the above list? Or would you invest in something else such as Costco or Pinterest?

A suggested order of preference would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Q: The ability to 'buy now, pay later' appears to be a growing trend. I note that Affirm just purchased the Canadian company PayBright this week, and that Affirm has filed for an IPO. Are there any publicly listed Canadian or US companies that focus on that are high growth investment opportunities that you would recommend? Can I assume that any firms that do have this as their core product have a very small 'moat' - that if the banks sense an opportunity here, they will eventually dominate this space?

Q: I try to buy best in breed companies or leaders in each sector/industry with the goal of holding for the long term. With the current sell off in high growth tech stocks my buy price alerts in the above companies are starting to get triggered. During times when we get a market sell off or sector rotation, as we may be getting over the next few days or weeks, I like to only buy one or 2 positions per day in order to keep some powder dry if the sell offs continue. If I don't hold positions in any can you rank in order of what you would buy first to last and please feel free to add other companies to this list you feel are good buys. Thanks for all your help.
