Q: Recently, I asked about adding to ECN.PR.C at $21 and you replied it was fine to hold but not to add (thanks). Now it's $17 and paying 9%. It is a rate reset preferred and I thought the guaranteed floor was 6.25% upon reset but you recently said otherwise in another reply.
Should I buy it now and what is the reset minimum?
Thanks.

Q: Hi Folks
Looking to add some companies with the following qualities to my portfolio. 1) in a fast growing non-cyclical industry 2) must be the best company or companies in it and 3) excellent management today and hopefully, in the future - can you provide some names that you feel meet the three criteria.
thanks for a great service

Can you name 5 companies that have good growth and value after the recent sell off. Also do any of them you feel comfortable about being overweight.

Q: Morning,
Thought has it that the Fed will raise interest rates tomorrow and then in a more dovish manner restrict the number of rates hikes next year ... possibly to 1. How would you think TLT would react under this scenario?
Thanks,
Dave

Q: Hello 5i - If we have fewer interest rate hikes going forward, or as some expect, 2019 may bring a recession, what could be the effect on bond fund ETFs such as ZAG, VAB or HAB for example? If investors have reduced equity exposure (to reduce risk) and increased "bond investments", are they in for an unpleasant surprise? Thanks, Ron

Q: Is this tax loss selling of stocks new? I don't recollect this being talked so much in the previous years. Please help me understand what has changed.
Q: In August, 5I issued a positive report on TFII rating it B+. The stock price was $48.30. It was subsequently added to the portfolio. Today the price is $36.70. Do you have any explanation why the drop of 24%? Markets are terrible but TFII is being punished more than the average. Is there some underlying fact that may be affecting things?

Q: Hello Peter
15% of my total portfolio are HQU shares. 18% of them are in non registered acct. and rest 82% are in TFSA & RRIF's accts. I am down on them 27%.
My question is: because most of my HQU shares are in registered accts. there is no tax losses on them, what would you do in this situation ,sell all and wait 30 days for repurchase if they go down or hold on to them for next couple of years.
thanks Andrew

Q: Thinking of selling CPD and averaging down on ECN.PR.A My reasoning indicates that the reset return on CPD portfolio will continue to fall as the yield flattens or inverts.
In the case of ECN.PR..A if 5 year yield is at 1.06 or lower the yield is still 6.25%. Basically I’m saying there is a floor under ECN.PR.A but not CPD. What is your opinion ?
