Q: I just sold my final energy stock last week for tax-loss, VET, so I'm out of the sector right now and wonder if it's a good time to reenter. I sold these two stocks in the summer, and see they are way down from where I sold. Are they still considered good companies, and do you think there is some growth in the stocks in 2019? Are the dividends considered secure? Thanks!

Q: Hi 5i,
Can I have your opinion on averaging down on these in the current climate, say in the next few days,. Without regard for weightings, risk profile etc, could you rank them in order that you would chip away at them?
Thanks

Q: Hi 5i
Let's say selling for tax purposes is not relevant for this question. Given the current negative momentum would you prefer (1) walking away and coming back after the New Year to assess the damage (of a portfolio) to decide a course of action or (2) actively manage (chip away or sell) before year end.
I suppose this is a question about "do nothing or do something" decisioning.
Thanks
Mike

Q: Is part of the market correction due to the huge amount of money flowing into pot stocks. The money is coming from somewhere???
Q: Hi 5i
I was going to ask a specific question but this one pretty much was it "What general question has not been asked ..." so I'll alter mine a bit.
What questions are you asking internally between yourselves or put another way, generally, what questions would you ask 5i Research if you were one of the members ?
Thanks
Mike

Q: Hi 5i team,
From this evenings news:
"CALGARY, Alberta, Dec. 18, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
Highlights (all dollar amounts US dollars, unless otherwise noted):
Parex Resources Inc. (“Parex” or the “Company”) (TSX:PXT) announces today that its strategic repositioning review process has been completed and did not result in an acceptable proposal;"
The article goes on to discuss 2018 results (good) and 2019 guidance (good) and plans for massive share buybacks at what mgmt appears to believe is a hugely discounted stock price.
Considering the beating this stock has taken lately and the above news, how do you feel about a new position in this company?

Q: Hi Everyone at 5i! I was asked what the best brokerage company for a dyi would be. I use TD Webbroker and am very satisfied with it. From a cost effective and user friendly point of view, which one would be your choice? Thanks, Tamara
Q: It appears more and more likely that there will be a 2nd referendum on Brexit. I predict the Brits will cancel their exit. I also think a deal with China will be had. Finally the Fed may signal no more rate hikes until stronger signs of inflation etc. This week may prove to be a great time to deploy cash to buy the bargains.
Q: I sold VET on Nov. 29 for a tax loss in my unregistered acct. Can I repurchase Vet in my TFSA or RIF before the 30 day limit. Thanks.

Further to my earlier question on this company, if this security is held in an registered account, is the dividend still taxed differently?
Thank You,
Barry

Q: Hi guys,
I look to hold companies that are able to maintain a reasonable ROE despite being debt-free. Some of the companies that I currently hold that meet this criteria are ENGH, TOY, CSU (pretty close), RCH, VCI (very small cap).
Can you suggest 5-10 more debt-free companies that screen well to you guys?
Thanks!
