Q: I have stayed away from energy, except for ENB and TC, which are pipelines.
Do you think there is more upside in the O & G stocks. If so what would you suggest?
Also the same goes for basic materials. I am not interested in gold. What would be your picks for basic materials.

Q: I've listed three of my "shall meet"-type requirements for my investment portfolio. I was wondering, what else would 5i add into these requirements to make a strong general portfolio.

1. 20-25 equities
2. 60% CAD, 40% USD
3. 60% growth, 40% value
4. Sector weighting limits??

Q: BAM is scheduled to distribute shares of BAMR to existing shareholders via a dividend in the coming days. They indicated that it will have the same economic value as owing shares in BAM. By same economic value do they mean div yield will be same for both?

If BAMR is in the reinsurance business wont the yield/performance dictated by its performance on a standalone basis?

I do own BAM shares in my RRSP , I find their spinoffs, re-orgs always confusing. I would like to add shares of BAMR only if it a standalone business and hopefully achieves similar success as previous spinoffs ( including Trisura).

Q: My daughter's benefit plan advisor has suggested this RBF526. Do you have an opinion, and does it offer any advantage over RBF1067.

Q: I have read the questions and answers regarding the spin off by Brookfield Asset Management, of the reinsurance business but I remain confused. Their press release calls the new shares "exchangeable". What will they be exchangeable into? Also; the press release says that these new shares "are intended to provide investors with the equivalent economic exposure to Brookfield but through an alternative security through which to hold their interests in Brookfield's business". Why would anyone want such an "alternative security" and how can these shares be economically equivalent? The reinsurance business company will own completely different assets from Brookfield Asset Management.

Q: I hate to sound ungrateful to Mr. or Mrs. Google, as I have done very well with my purchase of their GOOGL (the Class A) shares about 6 years ago. HOWEVER, I paid a premium of a few dollars to acquire the voting shares (GOOGL) instead of the non-voting GOOG. Now, perversely, the GOOGL are trading over $100 LESS THAN the GOOG - even though they represent the same economic interest PLUS have voting rights (which are often worth 'something' or 'a fair bit' but never, to my knowledge, NEGATIVE value). This discount is a 20% hit on my original investment. Can you explain this bizarre situation? Would you expect this anomaly to right itself at some point? And if you have an address for me to complain to Mrs. Google, please let me know!

Q: I currently hold the following in my TFSA: ENB, EGLX, LSPD, PLTR, SUGR, TIXT, TOI.
I propose to reduce LSPD from eight to six percent, use the proceeds to increase TOI from one to three percent
of my total portfolio and recapture my principal investment in LSPD. From a risk/reward and diversification move does this proposal appear, on the face of it, to be a reasonable change to make

With the forecast estimates of improved earnings, increased dividends/buybacks, etc... which of the "Big 5+EQB+LB" would you find the most attractive, both in terms of capital growth and dividend increases (i.e., total growth). Portfolio Analytics indicates that we're overexposed to the Consumer Cyclical Sector. Please rank the above three stocks from "sell some shares first" to "sell some shares last" so that we can free up some cash to put in the Materials sector, which is presently underrepresented. Q: I'm seeking an ETF to help with disruptive technologies.

I have mostly banks, REIT's, and other dividend paying stocks. Less in
technology, health care though I have a few ETF's covering the space.

What I don't have are ETF's that would protect against a possible
decline in my positions: such as disruptive financial stocks (such as
ARKF) and emerging internet, cybersecurity for example. I have very
little knowledge ion these areas but they could well be important
going forward, as a minority position (maybe 5 - 10% of my portfolio).

Thoughts?
