Q: My tech holdings have once again climbed to a big part of my portfolio (37%). So it is time to trim/sell some holdings. Can you please rank the above holdings, favorite to least favorite right now. Portfolio allocation recommends 16 %, but i will probably aim for 25-30%. Does that sound reasonable? Tech companies seem to be the ones that are growing the fastest.

I know that your usual response to selling when capital gains tax is involved is to sell down until you can sleep at night. Well, when I pay taxes I cannot sleep at night? What is the solution? Currently, with Shopify, Nividia, Meta etc, I have very high capital gains. Some are up to 10 or 12 percent of my portfolio. Should I just bite the bullet and sell down to a reasonable holding? or, just sell up through the end of my next tax bracket? I know these are impossible questions to answer. I had a worker going up on my roof the other day and I was surprised to see him having a very lively conversation with himself about how he should or shouldn't place the ladder. At first I thought this odd. But realising the danger of going straight up 30 feet in the air on a bouncy ladder, I thought it maybe not too stupid. Sometimes I feel that these are not the right questions to be asking you, as they are practically impossible to answer. But, maybe we are talking to ourselves like the ladder guy. You always end up having something useful to say, though, none the less.

I am thinking of investing in the rare earths segment. If i had to invest, would you suggest half and half or is Neo better than MP? Also, do you think i have missed the boat on investing in this area ? With regards to quantum computing, is IONQ considered one of the better companies to invest in? I have small positions in both SMCI and BKSY. After recent results, I’m considering consolidating into one company.

Which name do you have more conviction in, given a two-year time frame? For some context to other holdings in my portfolio, I have a very overweight position in NVDA and 3.3% in Nebius.

Q: Hi,
I'm looking at a clip from the Kobeissi Letter which reads as follows:

BREAKING: Nvidia, $NVDA, and AMD, $AMD, have reportedly agreed to give the US government 15% of their revenues from chip sales in China.

This is being described as an "unusual agreement" with Trump in order to obtain export licenses for the chips.

Having done some quick math, I am thinking this could amount to as much as 2.5 billion based on the value they sold to China last year. If that's correct, then is it possible 2.5 billion amounts to just over 4% of 2024 revenue for NVDA?

These seem like very large numbers to me, but I have to ask whether or not you feel this could be material to NVDA or not?

Of course this tidbit happened to be published on Sunday afternoon, which seems to be the usual time Trump decides to find yet another monkey wrench to hurl at the US economy. I also wonder about the 'unusual arrangement' comment, as that same thing was mentioned in the deal that allowed Japan to purchase US Steel, was it not?

Any thoughts you have to offer would be most welcome.

Q: A lead article in the NYT this morning stated that NVDA and AMD are expected to pay 15% of the money they take in from selling AI chips to China. It appears to be the price they must pay to do business with China. There is some concern about security issues. I would appreciate your take on this news,

Q: My son currently has Meta (META), Nebius (NBIS), Amazon (AMZN), and EIF Corp (EIF) in his TFSA, plus an ETF (ZSP) for some diversity. It’s a small portfolio but he really wanted to hold some individual stocks and not just ETFs. Would you be comfortable adding Nvidia (NVDA) and Axon (AXON) at current prices? They are two of my favorite stocks in my non-registered account but I know the prices have really run up. Would you have any better suggestions? Thanks.

Q: I loved this recent question from Giovanni, big kudos to him and his son for taking the fantastic suggestions from 5i, and GIANT HIGH 5 to 5i team!
So to ask the same question today, my 30ish daughter has about 45k cash in TFSA. Also has some NTDOY, DIS ZQQ and ZEB. Ok with ETFs but I don't think there is as good a chance for towering home runs like NVDA.

(thanks 5i) As might be expected their position sizes have become rather large and I am cognizant of the concern that "pigs get slaughtered"! Sooo, what to do. I sold half of Shopify some years ago and diversified into Unity Software and Lightspeed. We know how that went. Should have kept all the Shop! I'm comfortable with a large position in CSU but I'm wondering if it's time to trim some Nvidia. What are your best 3 tech ideas for diversifying my TFSA. Q: Keeps moving to the right. What is the current institutional ownership? Can't just be retail investors moving the stock higher. Seems like analysts want to like the stock but they keep putting out low share price targets because of valuation.

Did TSLA, NVDA, AMZN etc have stretched valuations and then they grew into them? Can you see PLTR at a 1T market cap valuation over time?

Q: Well happy days for all chip companies. With the recent about face and being able to sell "lower" end chips again to the Chinese market how do you see this playing out for these 2 companies and others? With NVDA hitting a 4trillion value without being able to sell in this market where could their valuation go from here in your opinion?
What percentage of the Chinese market did they have prior to the embargo that has now been lifted?

Q: With the run of NVDA over the last few year I now have a HUGE position in the stock and need to trim it.
