Q: Dear Peter et al:

The earnings season is about to begin! VRT on 23/07 and NBIS on 31/07. I know you don't like to buy something purely based on one quarter's earnings. But if one needs to add to an existing VRT position, is it prudent to wait or add now? I have no position in NBIS. Should one buy now or wait till the earnings or out? The main reason I am asking is NOT to time the market but to avoid that free fall that sometimes these earnings bring on! Seem to be more unpredictable nowadays than ever before!

Q: We're taking some profits from my wife's position in TVK, and I'm looking to establish a new position for her.

For what might qualify as tech/AI, she has DSG, AMZN.ca and Goog.ca. On the AI theme, I'm considering Avgo.ne (I'm overweight Nvidia), ASML.ne or AMD.to. She also lacks in Communications and tech generally, so I'm also thinking NFLX.ne. and Uber.ne.

This is intended to be a long-term holding with growth in mind, so can you rank the five companies -- AVGO, ASML, AMD, NFLX and UBER in order of preference please in terms of long-term growth.

And thank you for your service over the last decade-plus, because retirement certainly wouldn't be in sight without 5I's help.

Pete, Calgary.

Q: I am a senior and have been a member of 5I since you started. Between us "we" have been very successful!
I want to give back in the form of an endowment to our local Church to continue providing funds for a couple of local charities that feed and provide to those less fortunate! I will be allocating shares to Canada Helps to provide the seed funds, probably 100-200K.
I know stocks would be very difficult to administer, but ETF's less so. Also, maybe they can only do Mutual Funds.
If mutual funds do you suggest MAWER?
If ETF's and using some of your previous correspondence do you continue to to suggest ZSP, XIC, VIU, and CDZ.
Any help you provide would be greatly appreciated as we meet with the Church Staff.
Warmest Regards Gordo

Q: Hello,

What are your thoughts on having those ETF/MF in ones portfolio with the purpose of generating a stable monthly dividend? Also, I am interested in your thoughts regarding MSTY (US) ETF which appears to pay a dividend of 127.45%. How sustainable is this rate. Looking forward to your thoughts.

Q: With the run of NVDA over the last few year I now have a HUGE position in the stock and need to trim it.
Can you suggest 5 Canadian or US companies that could be the next NVDA in the next 5+ years and their growth and risk as well as any other details you may have on the companies.

Thanks
Joe

Q: Hi guys,

Your thoughts on "Fusion energy" stocks? Are we still in the first couple of innings and need to wait some more or is it time to start chipping away at a position? Should you think it's time, who would you recommend?
Thanks
Jim

Q: Hello 5i,
largely thanks to you, I have made a fair bit of money over the past few years. Certainly, more than I would have made on my own. Thank you. But, I am thinking that in my mid 70's I should start thinking about preserving it in order to pass it on. I know that stocks are you're forte, but i noticiced that you have been generous enough to give advise on other matters, as well. I will try to make this question not too close to portfolio planning advice and so hope you can advise me. In reviewing literature I notice that people say at this stage in life, we should not be looking out too far. Therefore shortterm bond etf's are best. AGG, which I own, for instance, is discouraged because it goes out to six years and there could be a downturn at just the wrong time. They also mention holding tips, corporate bonds and a GI C ladder. I didn't think that I would need these latter assets. Just bond etf's in US and CDN. I also thought government would be better than corporate, as well, because they would be more secure. Anyway, I hope that at this point in the game you can also dsirect me to the right choices, as you have in the past. Here is a list of assets suggested:

short-term Canadian bonds XSB or VSB Core stable income
Short-term corporates ZCS Slightly higher yield
Laddered GICs (1–5 yrs) GICs from brokerage Guaranteed principal
U.S. short Treasuries VGSH Safe USD diversification
U.S. short TIPS VTIP Inflation hedge
High-interest savings ETF CASH.TO or PSA Liquidity buffer

Q: Hello 5i Team,
Looking to add more broad-based U.S. exposure to a non-registered account. With the recent strength of the Canadian loonie to the US dollar, would you recommend buying a Canadian-dollar traded ETF like ZSP, or converting Canadian funds to US dollars and investing in SPY (or something similar)?
Many thanks,
Brian

Q: Good morning. I have a half position in ATD in my RRIF that is the only under performer. I would like to sell it and open a position in gold. I'm not sure whether to buy a producer, a streamer or an ETF. I could add funds and buy 1 full position, or buy 2 of the above categories. Your thoughts and suggestions for tickers would be welcome. Thanks in advance. David
