Q: I have a reasonably well-balanced portfolio encompassing many 5i suggestions. I have recently opened a TFSA account and would like your assessment of the above for immediate purchase in that account.
Thanks for your assistance.

Q: Greetings 5i,

I would like to ask your advice about my consumer non-cyclical holdings. I currently hold L at a little more than a half position. I am making an effort to increase my exposure to American stocks, and am considering adding a comparable position in PG. Given that L owns Shoppers Drug Mart, do you feel as if the addition of PG would create an unnecessary overlap? If so, is there another US non-cyclical option you might recommend??

I am 36 years old, conservative, and prefer-long term holds.

Thank you.

Q: Hi 5i,
Recognizing Loblaw is much bigger (but has a small dividend) and more diversified than North West Co (but has a big dividend), but is also more prone to competition from Amazon/Whole Foods, what are the pros and cons of switching from L to NWC from a risk/return perspective for a consumer staple holding a this time?
Thank you, Michael

Q: Greetings, guys.

I have Winpak and Loblaws. I like both names because Loblaws is trading at a roughly 15 p/e and Winpak has no debt and a large cash position. However, eps growth in 2018 is fairly muted in both names.

All things being equal, I was wondering, would you sell Loblaw for WSP Global and Winpak for Cae? I have a small loss on Loblaw in a tax free account and I have a 10% gain on Winpak in a taxable account.

Do you think these changes improve the growth profile of my portfolio, without increasing the volatility? I appreciate your thoughts.

Q: Hi 5i Team:
I've held L for the better part of 3 years now. It seems range bound between $60 - $70. Sometimes going over $70 and then having a pullback. With Amazon entering/disrupting the grocery business. I would like your opinion if you think switching Loblaw's for Premium Brands would be appropriate. Same sector, same dividend and PBH probably better growth and dividend prospects.

Q: Hi, currently I hold these stocks as part of my consumers staples. Thinking of selling L and moving funds into one of the other names. Which would be best? Can you rank these? Thanks!

Q: I am retired living off dividend income. In your income portfolio, Loblaw stands out as it only has a 1.52% yield and a relatively low 5 year DGR. It seem that it was originally included for growth vs. income in 2014, however it had a higher yield then of 2%.
Do you still recommend Loblaw in the income portfolio with only a 1.52% yield? Are you considering switching for a higher yield company?
What other consumer non-cyclical looks attractive at current prices with a higher yield for an income portfolio?

Q: I need to increase my holdings of Consumer staples. Please rank the following in order of your preference when the main focus is dividend growth with secondary goal of capital appreciation.
ATD, L, MRU, SAP, WN, EMP.A, MFI, BCB, PBH, PJC.A

I can be patient in the timing of my purchases. Do you think this is a good time in the economic cycle tp purchase this sector?

Many Thanks

Paul

Q: About a month ago, a member asked about the above companies, and you responded that you considered PBH riskier (although not *that* risky overall). In light of the AMZN move, do you still consider PBH riskier? I hold L, should I switch to PBH? For longterm, hopefully indefinite hold. Thank you.

Q: Premier Wynn announced today minimum wage goes to $ 14.00 an hour Jan. 1st 2018 and then to & 15.00 Jan 1st 2019. Alberta is similar $ 15.00 in 2019. B C will have a NDP government soon and they may follow. Not good for Service Industry like A & W, Tim's, Cara etc. What other Industries will be effected ? Part Time workers to get same benefits. Corporate Leaders are concerned. Good for Workers.

Your comments please.

Q: CGX has been flat for me over the past few years, and I'm thinking of selling my position and investing it in something else in the consumer sector. Do you have a preference between L, ATD.B, or DOL? Is there another name I should be considering?

Q: Hi. Since joining your service I have slowly sold my mutual funds and built up the portfolio listed. I have an equal percentage of these listed except M at 16% AVO at 1.6% and SGY at .6 %. I have a mutual fund left at 6% that I would like to sell. For a balanced portfolio today what would you recommend I purchase? 3 - 5 year timeframe. Please deduct appropriate credits for the long question. Thanks.

Q: Could you compare Loblaw and Metro? Loblaw is in the 5i Income portfolio, but I am somewhat more inclined toward MRU. I like the ongoing contribution to MRU's bottom line from its ATD.B shares and due to current share price weakness, MRU looks to at an attractive entry point. As always, I would appreciate your perspective.
