Q: Good Morning;
I own 500 shares of TOU. Because I bought them a couple years ago and trimmed as they rose, my dollar cost average on these shares is zero!! This position accounts for 24.5% of my portfolio, but is such a great holding that I am reluctant to sell any of it!!
I know it is a bad idea to become married to a holding, but with the dividend and special dividends this holding is providing, I am reaping approx 10% return this year!! How do I replace that kind of a return, and what would your advice be? Would you consider CWB as a good option for a new position (I own 225 shares of BNS as my only other bank holding.

Q: I bought some medical start-ups in private placements around 2004 through 2007, including TMD Titan Medical. I bought into the both the Canadian and the US private placements. TMD has had a number of frustrating round-trips. Yesterday December 5, TMD stock saw considerable action both sides of border: opened yesterday at 0.90 Canadian , went up 40% to 1.25 closing the day at C$1.15 on high volume. Collapsed this morning. I see no news to explain the swing. The company sent shareholders anote about a strategic review. Perhaps a takeover is in the wings? Do you have any news on TMD? Would you hold or sell? (Tax loss not useable).
Q: I hold some stock and my average cost is $4.58. could you give me your view on the future of WBR ,
Jim.

Q: What is your latest analysis for the prospects of this company?

Q: With a recent news release from NTR saying they want to establish a bigger presence in Brazil, do you think NPK would be a company they would consider for a take out. NPK announced today they are seeking a permit for a rail line.

Q: hi,
can I get your thoughts on BABA for a long term hold. Obviously huge uncertainty re China government. but China markets down lots due to lockdowns etc. I was thinking BABA could be a good proxy for the Chinese markets.
And, if not BABA, do you have an ETF that you think would perform best with an uptick in the Chinese stock markets ( and is very liquid )
cheers, chris

Q: Hi 5i,
I own BAM.PR.M preferred shares. Which company will be responsible for paying dividends on this preferred share after the upcoming split?
Will the ticker change? If so, to what?
Thanks for the help.

Q: hi,
I hold these in my USD account. I'm trimming PFE today as it was getting too large a holding. could you please rank all as a current buy, sell, hold. I am a long term investor. and , could you provide 2-3 other US names, with a reasonable balance of growth and downside protection in this market. cheers, chris

Global X USD Cash Maximizer Corporate Class ETF (HSUV.U)
Q: Looking to park some US cash and some Cdn cash with a reasonable assurance of safety (CDIC aside) while avoiding interest income in favour of capital appreciation via Horizons corporate class structure using these 2 ETFs. Do you see these as a reasonable means of achieving the goal? Both ETFs have substantial amounts invested and seem to use a similar approach to generating returns yet HSAV has more erratic up and down performance. Why? Any cautions or concerns? Whatcha think - does this plan make sense? Thanks as always for your generous thoughts.
Q: Is there an equivalent to XLG in Canadian dollars?
Q: I realize this stock has been beat up. looking to add a bank stock. Looking for a dividend stock for the long term. Should move on it now or wait until the dust settles. Or the other bank I'm considering is BNS. It's been the laggard for a while.
Looking forward to your comments.

Q: Hi, further to your answer to Nick on Dec 2nd, it is best to hold BIP.PA in a registered account (TFSA, RRSP, RRIF) as,, it is an LP and pays distributions (not eligible dividends like most preferreds) which are subject to onerous tax reporting if held in a margin account.

Q: Can you please name your favourite single stocks in Canada that are in the really future-oriented disruptive tech sectors (AI, quantum, 5G, genomics, others)?
Q: Can you offer your analysis of their recent Q3 results? Market didn't seem to like them. And do you think this is the time to buy more stock in this company with EV's increasing worldwide? Would a 3 year old be the minimum to invest? Please take as many credits as necessary. Thanks for your expert opinion.
Q: Below is an email from Interactive Brokers.
"As a result of recent US legislation under Internal Revenue Code Section 1446(f), gross proceeds from sales of and certain distributions from Publicly Traded Partnerships ("PTPs") held by non-US tax residents (both individuals and entities) will be subject to 10% withholding starting on January 1, 2023."
It is not clear to me that the 10% withholding tax is on the distributions only or 10 % tax will also be applicable to the total proceeds amount when I sell it ?
The company involved in my case is ET but can also be applicable to other publicly traded partnerships.
Thanks for looking into this.

Q: These are all huge losers for me. Is it worth keeping all of them, or lightening up? If so what would you let go?
