Q: This is a follow up question to your answer to John. When I look at the VCN prospectus as (of Oct. 31st) it seems to follow the benchmark pretty much exactly rather than make the adjustments as per your reply there. Am I missing something? Thanks

Q: Good Morning- I am looking for some ETF suggestions for global dividend growth- Is there any one ETF solution in this category? HAZ is one I am aware of ... and I like PDF for North America. Just wondering if there is a global VGG type out there that would include Emerging markets, EU, North America etc?

Q: I own IPL and am down around 7.5%. I am considering selling IPL for the tax loss and buying ENB. I am thinking that ENB has at least as much capital appreciation possibility as IPL. The ENB dividend is a little smaller than IPL but it is still healthy. What are your thoughts?

Q: Please help me understand ETF's. If I owned an ETF which holds, say, technology stocks and I wanted to sell it because AAPL is doing poorly presumably I sell it in the market; which means that someone else buys it. That should not affect AAPL or MSFT, ABDE, etc. Does the ETF need to sell those securities?

Q: I think that 3 more increases in interest rates are expected by end of 2019. You commented recently that one of these banks stock dropped due to bad loans. Is the info on bad loans available in the QLY rpts or elsewhere? I understood that the banks generally do well in rising interest rates but will this be offset by fewer mortgages?

Q: Hi 5i
I thought I understood the DRIP or cash distribution concept but I've just received a cash distribution equaling 25% of the expected amount. On Oct 10th, Crius announced 4th Qtr distribution amounts of 0.0697. Then on the 24th announce the initiation of the DRIP.
As I am not eligible for the DRIP (currently resident outside of Canada), I expected 0.0697 per unit but have received 0.017425 (25%). This is a surprise to me - I'll need to discuss this with the broker but just wanted to clarify that there wasn't a cut or some other reason triggering additional foreign withholding tax (or ???)
Is this cash distribution amount an issue with my expectation ? Is this something you could clarify for me ?

Q: Re: Tax Loss Selling. I understand that a loss counts if you wait 30 days before repurchasing. However, what if you repurchased in a different account in less than 30 days. Who the loss hold up? Thx Frank

Q: Hi 5i,

Most of the etfs that I have looked at for the Canadian market are 60-65% in financials and resources which I think is a very large weighting. I understand that the Canadian market is tilted towards these sectors but is there any etf that is more diverse and balanced?

Alternately, is there an etf which would resemble your balanced portfolio (wishful thinking?). I am looking at moving all my stocks to etfs as I don't have the time to manage them.

If there are no etfs that match the above, maybe you could suggest a mix of etfs for different sectors and weighting? Looking for growth, no need for any yield.

Q: I ve been looking for a way to invest in the rise in popularity of car shares like zip car or car2go.

I haven’t found any pure plays but was thinking BYD may see a benefit from this trend. I feel like these vehicles must see lots of bumps and dings during their life in the city and users caring less about them than their personal vehicle. I would assume car share companies would prefer to work with larger auto body companies like Boyd for these repairs.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this and if you have any other ideas on how to invest in this trend.

Q: Good morning 5i team
I am considering selling NFI in my Investment a/c to trigger a 2018 tax loss, and plan to buy it back ~ 30 days later in line with CRA rules. Does this seem like a reasonable risk to take in the current market? i.e. is the expectation reasonable that I "may" be able to buy it back at roughly the same level as now?

Q: What would be your opinion of this company ? I have owned this for a very long time and I am currently way down. This company was once a fast growing and exciting but in past years seems to have had board trouble and expansion growth issues. I hold this in a regular margin account and if needed I would have a nice tax loss. Is there any hope for Davids Tea? Thanks
