Q: After watching Tesla from the sidelines (sadly) for too long, I would like to start an investment in the EV "sector". I am thinking about a basket approach and would appreciate your opinion on a few that I know of and any others that you may suggest.
Workhorse, WKHS; Arcimoto, FUV (does not pop up on your site), Nio inc, NIO; Nikola Motors, NKLA; Kandi Technologies, KNDI; and of course, Tesla, TSLA. I realize that some if not all of these may be speculative and require a long time frame but I do believe that there is an EV revolution coming and I would like to be part of it as both an investor and a consumer. Do any of them have serious red flags?
Is there a very specific ETF that might be an easier way to go? Any thoughts on whether Rivian might go public any time soon? Should GM be on the list perhaps?
As always, thanks so much for your valued opinions regarding this and everyone else's enquiries!

Q: Hi 5i, I last asked about Tesla on Feb 6. It was trading about $750 then and has recently bounced off $1030 and closed about $930 today. Since that time, arguably very challenging for the automotive industry, much has happened at Tesla (Chinese factory operation and expansion, Berlin on the way, Wall street opinion reversals and increased targets, record Model 3 orders, reduced car prices, Model Y deliveries commencing) and this week, announcement of the Semi starting production and Cybertruck is in the wings (with rumoured +500,000 pre-orders). (And the SPACE X launch - a cousin enterprise to Tesla).

Has your opinion changed on the company ? I am a long term holder.

Thanks so much for your excellent service.

Q: Hi 5i, I own a LOT of Tesla. I believe in the company a LOT for it's future potential for many reasons I think not yet understood by many of the analysts and the general public. The recent increase in Tesla, including +850 today, has been quite nice to be a part of, but is I believe is driven by "some" hype and is very unhealthy for things to move that quickly. Slow progressive growth being more stable and sustainable. Peter, can you weigh in with some comments on any similiar dramatic price action you have seen in your career and whatever advice you might like to offer. Thanks Peter.

Q: Hi guys
From what i have been reading (Tony Siba) next year is the tipping point for purely economic reasons, it won't make any sense economically to buy a gasoline powered vehicle. From his point of view Batteries are going to be a huge disruptive technology in the future in both, transportation and energy (natural gas) as they become cheaper, and much more powerful.
Have you guys been looking for any investment opportunities in this sector.?
Thanks Gord

Q: I started following the 5i balanced equity portfolio in my LIRA a couple of months ago, but to change it up I am thinking about taking a 5% portfolio position in one of these companies. I have a 25-year investment time horizon for my LIRA. If I wanted to replace one of the 5i balanced equity portfolio funds with one of SHOP, APPL, TSLA, GOOG or AMZN, what would you recommend (both the one I would sell and the one to replace it with)?

Q: Hi 5i Team,

I have heard that the short sellers of Tesla stock have held the price from going up. Since the recent rise to +420, this is maybe a bit late to ask. However, I have always believed there are buyers and sellers, and that folks who short are simply believing the stock will go down. But, can a significant number of short sellers influence the market and actually help the stock go down ? Thank you for your superior service. Perplexed and curious 5i fan.

Q: Hello 5i team. Laugh if you want, but I'm very tempted to take a small position in Tesla. On the one hand, the stock is up almost 70% in the last six months, they turned a modest profit last quarter as you well know, deliveries are at a record clip, and it definitely has the cool factor. On the other hand it has bled buckets of money for years, quality issues abound, and I'm torn between thinking Elon Musk is a pothead / space cadet, or a genius. Please act as my chamber of sober second thought on this one. Thanks.

Q: Do you view Tesla as an auto or tech company? Would you focus on gross margin and production in the quarterly results or would you value the company based on its technology, considering the level of investments in autonomous self driving cars by the traditional auto manufacturers? Will the end game for Tesla is being acquired by a traditional auto manufacturer? Is it a buy for you at this stage?

Q: May I have your thoughts on Tesla? I was considering buying it for a short term trade to try to ride any waive of short covering—the short float seems high at 30% and I assume that there will have to be some degree of covering if the stock continues to recover a bit on good news. Can I have your opinion on such a trade? Thanks.
