Q: In response to your answer to the Qs below about the dividend type for A&W:
The dividends paid out are treated as non-eligible dividends (not interest) which means that the gross up and dividend tax credit is lesser than eligible dividends. But you do get the credit and do not pay the same tax as interest income. So I think your answer that the dividends are taxed as income is incorrect.
It is interesting that Boston Pizza's distribution is either eligible dividend or return of capital (all of A&W distribution is non eligible due to the distributions coming from holding company to A&W royalties).

Q: How are distributions from AW.UN taxed? I am a Canadian resident.
5i Research Answer:
Distributions are treated as 'non eligible dividends' and thus are taxed as income.

Q: Hi,
Can you please comment on this fund with respect to its allocation, MER and your view of the fund as a long term hold. Is there a comparable ETF, if so, which one?
Thanks,
Craig

Original investment $10K. 44% loss in CRH, 20% loss in GPS &26% approx. loss in ITC. I have full positions in GUD,TOY,SIS,GSY, PBH,NFI,KXS,1/2 position in PHO. My question do I wait and buy back the 3 sold or allocate the cash to the above names with momentum; and if so how would you suggest I allocate the funds. Thanks in advance david P.S. 15 blue chip names back up these small caps; banks ;utilities; pipelines and telecoms.
Q: Which is your favorite US Bank and why would you buy it today?
Thank you.
Thank you.
Q: I was starting to build a position in rio thinking it was a fairly solid dividend payer in the materials sector with some international exposure. It is down almost 4%today. do you think this is on the basis of the decreased copper production due to temporary issues or the sec charges for past executives and likely to smolder for some time. SGould I continue to add or bail. Thanks for your advice.

Q: I would appreciate your thoughts on how one should diversify his investments geographically, (Canada, United States, and Internationally). What do you think would be the percentages I should allocate to each area? I realize allocation is a personal decision but I'm looking for some kind of general guideline. I consider myself to be an average investor and therefore willing to accept some risk.
Being a member of 5i, and following your guidance, I think I have the my Canadian investments under control but I would appreciate some help for the U.S. and international allocations.
I would also appreciate it if you would suggest your favourite ETF to invest in the United States and internationally.

Q: Can you suggest an ETF or some other vehicle in the Canadian market to short the Euro?
Q: Hi Peter and team:
Two of the companies in my small cap portfolio, Acuity
Ads and TSO3, have performed badly for me in the last year. I am down 50% on AT and down 40% on TSO. I am willing to be patient but wondering if this is a recovery that could take many months, if not years, which is too long for me. Do I hang on, or are there other small cap stocks with promising technologies that may be preferable with a shorter timeline to success? By the way, I own PHO after reading your reviews, which has worked out well for me, thanks.
Pierre
