Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Exco technologies continues to make 52 weeks lows down 45% since 2015. Canadian insider reports pretty heavy insider trading in the recent early summer pop up. Should that be concerning?

Is there a good reason to hold this and how does it current p/e compare to its historic average. Dividend of 3.3% is also very high; what does that represent of payout ratio?

Thanks

Q: I am slowly building the BE portfolio in my RRSP as funds become available. For instant diversification, would it make sense to own 20-30% ZDV for access to bigger names like BNS, ENB, MG, T, MX, CGX and SLF? Basically Financials, Energy and Utilities would be covered. I could then concentrate on adding the smaller names like SIS, PBH, GUD, ENGH, TOY for the remainder of the portfolio? Would it defeat the essence of the BE portfolio? Any other ETF would be better? Thanks!

Q: Re: Aug.25/17 comment from Bob on SIS big volume. This is where Technical Analysis/Stock Charts may play a role looking forward & backward combining the fundamentals. The stock has corrected roughly 30% from a high of 17.55 to its current low of 12.04. Simple charting platforms such as Moving Averages-Bollinger Bands-Relative Strength Index-MACD might of helped to find a bottom & choose an entry point.Could you tell us the size of the block trade & the price.
This could tell you where institutions are prepared to take a stand. The stock looks somewhat clean now & may return to its upward momentum. Regards: Ken

Q: SIS has sharply declined from its peak of $17.55 in late May.It is priced to perfection. After miss of expected EPS the last 2 Qs(May by 0.01 & Aug 0.05(0.07 vs 0.12 expected),investors are very unforgiving in this climate(eg geopolitical,Trump, seasonally weak period-mid July to mid Oct,talks of big correction & high valuation) despite 2 good US earnings period & slow & steady growth in economy.Look at similar negative impact on KXS & CGX.On the flip side, see PBH & SHOP.SIS was top pick of 5I on 3/3/16 @ $5.85 & 5/16/16 @ $7.99.I am now looking for an entry point,so please advise what is the catalyst(s) for a turnaround. Thanks for u normal great views & services.

Q: I have held CXI for a long time and am willing to hold longer. However, I am intrigued by PEO, particularly because of Peter's continued interest in it. The question is, do I cash CXI in and buy PEO? Does PEO present a better growth option than CXI or if/when CXI comes out of its doldrums would you expect CXI to show better growth over the next few years? Given I have held CXI this long and consider myself a long term investor, I am wondering if I would be "betraying" my philosophy if I sell or am I just being unreasonably fearful that I would miss out on CXI?

I am looking at exchanging these two as it would maintain my financial sector holdings.

Appreciate your insight.

Q: I know you are high on this co.,and i agree it is maybe cheap, but it is now off close to 30% of it's high and sinking fast to where it was 3 years ago, i know it is still up for the year, but what is it that the market does not like about this stock?. I find that many low p/e stocks are not the stocks that you want to hold, they are cheap for some reason.
Thanks again so much.
