Q: Other than cyclicality, do you know of any good reasons not to add to my Stelco holdings in the $30's for the dividend portion of my portfolio?

Q: My portfolio analysis suggests I am underweight in Basic Materials, Consumer Cyclicals, Utilities and Healthcare. I have USD to invest as I am also underweight in the US. Could you give me your 2 best suggestions for overall return (not high-risk) in each of these sectors individually as well as a group. I would also like to know if there are Canadian companies more attractive than your US suggestions in the same sector. Thank you for your help over the years
Q: While I am 'stocked up' in my industrial sector (TFII, WSP, CN, EIF, ATA, J, TT), I have read that with the CP/KCS merger/buyout and the agreement's dilution of CP shares, the next few days might be a significant opportunity to pickup CP shares. If the share price does drop, would you be a purchaser?
Many thanks for this excellent service.

Q: I think ADF group ( DRX on tsx) is quite undervalued. The problem is that there are no comparable public Canadian companies. I recall about 5 years ago so , there was a similar type of company that was taken private. Can-Am steele or something like that. Do any of you know what company I am referring to?

Q: I think we see the method to the shorting operation Spruce Point’s madness - taking down Canadian-based but dual-listed tech firms. First Lightspeed and now Nuvei. They seem to have developed an incredibly successful strategy. Since investors seem to suffer enormous losses on the day the short is announced, my question is this: do you see any potential further targets that one should be worried about? Constellation Software and Topicus are not dual listed, so I assume they are safe, as I believe Spruce Point is benefitting from American hedge funds piling on. Is this a fallacy? I am now worried about CGI and Descartes for example.

Q: Hi Folks,
I have the above companies in my TFSA all at the same or so weight. I had BYD but sold it when it started to drop. I am still ahead in my sold price as compared to its current price. I am looking to add another or even BYD now that it has settled somewhat, can you give me your suggestion as to what you would add to this lineup - buy back BYD or can you provide some others that I can add. Thank you very much for your suggestions over the years.

Q: Over the past few months my portfolio portfolio performance has been really underperforming mainly due to short reports.
Yes, I had a 7% weighting in LSPD and a 6% in NVEI. So the drops as you can calculate has hampered performance.
If you look at the reminder of the balanced portfolio and the growth portfolio which of the holdings would you you think could be most vulnerable to another short attack?
Just to name a few:
BYD, DSG, KXS, GSY,TOI,DND,XBC,WELL??????
Any others?
Thanks
Sheldon

Q: Hi! I plan on doing something rash. Specifically, I plan on investing 95k (the entire amount of a self-directed pension plan which I can access in about 20 years), in WELL.
In terms of rashness, 0 being not rash at all (in fact quite level-headed) and 10 being extremely rash, and bordering on sublime folly, what would rate my proposed plan?

Q: Can you comment on any short covering in your small cap recommendations?
Q: I have held STN for almost 10 years and it has recently showed some good growth. I am considering selling STN and purchasing WSP. Which company do you expect to perform better in the next 5 to 10 years and why?
Q: Would you classify BEPC as a growth at reasonable price stock or an income stock. I am searching for some Canadian garp names for my TFSA and would welcome some additional suggestions for a 5 year hold. Thank you
Q: Hello, my discount broker has the following product in its inventory of fixed income products:
National Bank of Canada Announces NVCC AT1 Limited Recourse Capital Notes Offering
Montreal, 14 April 2021 -
National Bank of Canada (“National Bank”) today announced that it has entered into an agreement with a group of agents led by National Bank Financial Inc. for the issuance of $500 million of Limited Recourse Capital Notes, Series 2 (Non-Viability Contingent Capital (NVCC)) (Subordinated Indebtedness) (the “Notes”).
The Notes will bear interest at a rate of 4.05% annually, payable semi-annually, for the initial period ending on but excluding August 15, 2026. Thereafter, the interest rate on the Notes will reset every five years at a rate equal to the prevailing 5-year Government of Canada Yield plus 3.045%. The Notes will mature on August 15, 2081.
Obviously, the day I need the capital (it would be in my RRIF), I need to sell the note with the associated broker commission. The interest rate today is 4.21%. Are there disadvantages in putting some money for income in this type of product (I have seen offerings from other financial institutions as well) and if so, what are these? Thanks!

Q: I was going to sell 2 energy stocks . I am underweight in industrials, materials consumer discretionary and consumer staples.
Could you recommend your top two Canadian companies in each sector for growth.
On the other hand would it be just as well or would you favour Canadian ETF for each sector and could you list your favorite for each sector?
Thanks
Jeff
