Q: Can you please provide a brief analysis of risk for this one, maybe especially with respect to their balance sheet and whether you know anything about any debt obligations that may incur higher rates at refinancing, valuation now vs historical P/E, potential headwinds etc.? I rode it up and right back down, just a little concerned about where the floor is, it is a bit of a smaller cap than I usually commit to for the full position I have. Thank you.

Q: Two companies in different sectors. My intent is to adjust my weightings. Which company:
- Has the most favourable debt situation (acknowledging that TRP is a bit different being utility-like) ?
- Has the best total return potential in the long term?
- Has the best moat if it exists?
- Can withstand the present rate environment better - assuming rates don’t drop any time soon.
Thanks.

Q: Hi 5i!
I'm looking to reblance my portfolio and would like to take advantages of actual opportunities. I dont have any utilities and energy stocks. Also, I would like to increase my investments into large caps. Which stocks would you recommand? Growth / bakanced oriented.
For utilities, i noticed the drop on bip.un and bep.un but i already own bn. Would you buy of them or just add to bn... or buy something else for better diversification.
Many thanks.

I am down 35% on the stock and wondering what to do.
Thanks

Q: Great yield on this one, although I believe it's more variable than most. Would you consider this security too volatile for pensioner on fixed income with otherwise diversified portfolio?
Q: Can I really go wrong with starting a long term coca-cola position?
Q: hi,

Q: There haven't been many questions on RA of late. Now yielding a mind boggling 18% . That a lot for a fund based on real assets ..... Something happened in late August that took a third of its' value off . I believe that was a dividend cut ? What was the reason behind the cut ? With 73% of the fund invested in fixed income I don't understand the volatility .....Please review the structure and its' holdings and give me a fresh perspective of what this fund holds and its' investment quality. And explain why such a structure pays such a high dividend ? And if the new dividend faces the likelihood of another cut ? ......... Thanks Garth ....
Q: Hi - with an (unfortunate) increase in military spending going forward, is MSI a likely beneficiary of such spending? Any other factors that you like or dislike about the company and its prospects for the coming year or so?
Q: I see ISV has had a stumble. What appened and what do you think of it now?
Q: The other day a member asked about utility companies being takeover candidates and you closed your answer by saying:
"Companies we think would prefer stock deals and may be loathe to add more debt right now. But, AQN, ALA, TA, RNW, CPX and INE are probably getting a little antsy right now about overtures."
I am not sure how to interpret the "getting antsy" reference; are you saying these companies could potentially be subject to a takeover? If so, most of the time that would be a good thing but are you thinking that these companies are in bad shape and would be forced into a distressed (low ball) sale? Thanks much for your excellent service.

Q: Peter, what are your top 10 defencive dividend paying stocks in Canada in order of safety please.
Q: I'm down 22% on Bank of NovaScotia. If history repeats again I should double down. I've lived thru cycles where the banks pay a yield over 5% and each time their price goes up and as a result yield goes to a more normal rate. I already have a 5% weighting on this stock, and my rule is not to go any higher, but this is so tempting. "Chasing yield". Where can I find charts showing prime rate vs BNS yield to compare over a 20 year period.
Q: Many utility companies have lost half of their market capitalization from their peak. Do you anticipate any utility companies being potential takeover targets in the upcoming month?
-
Brookfield Infrastructure Partners L.P. (BIP.UN $42.69)
-
Brookfield Infrastructure Corporation Class A Exchangeable Subordinate Voting Shares (BIPC $55.16)
Q: Both of these in a non-reg USD account. Considering selling BIP.UN for very small gain and investing proceeds in BEPC to claim dividend tax credit benefit (not much for me at 43% marginal rate). What do you see as downsides to this plan?
