Q: Hello 5i....Has SPB become a " Growth by Acquistion": company or is your view that it primarily an Income Stock ? If adding back to models ( if indeed worthy ) which PF would you put it into ?
With respect to the ongoing take-over/merger of IPL by BIPC/PPL, I have the following questions:
1 – There appears there is a time lag of 22 days from the filing date of BIPC “Notice of Variation” to the meeting date (i.e. third Notice of Variation filed July 15 to proposed meeting date of August 06). Is this a stipulated regulatory
requirement?
2 – If the required notice period is 21 or 22 days, then is it correct that PPL would NOT be able to revise its offer of 0.5 shares of PPL for each IPL share prior to BIPC meeting date?
3 – At current prices, for BIPC/IPL/PPL, who is buying/selling IPL in the market?
If an IPL purchaser would want to vote for the BIPC offer, they could buy shares of BIPC cheaper than the equivalent amount of BIPC they would receive in the BIPC offer.
If an IPL purchaser would want to vote for the PPL offer, they could buy shares of PPL cheaper than they could buy equivalent amount of IPL shares.
It would make sense for existing shareholders (from prior to announcement) to hold and wait for the results of the bidding war unless one wants cash from either proposal.
4 – What are 5i thoughts on who will ultimately win this takeover battle?
Q: Is there any reason you see why Quebecor is down over 2% today? I already have a good size position in BCE and Telus and I am thinking, for me, QBR.b, given its eps growth estimates, valuation and dividend, looks pretty attractive.
What would it take for SU to restore the dividend pre covid?
Also, with all that money 'saved' from the dividend cut, you think they are buying back shared, paying down debt, looking for an acquisition, all of the above?
Q: Hi team
do you have a website or link to list
the monthly (listed from the 1st to the last of month in chronological order) dividends of Canadian stocks from Jan to end of December every month of the year?
Q: I noticed that AQN is issuing units consisting of shares and notes yielding 7.75% to 2026. Do you have any thoughts about this investment?
Thanks for your insight.

Q: Hi Folks,
I currently own the following in my RRSP account (weightings in brackets ) - PG (4%), TD (13.5%), BNS (10%), MFC (3%), ABBV (6.5%), PFE (12%), BCE (14%), T (14.5%), AQN (6.5%), BIP.UN (6%), and ENB (6.5%).
I want to reduce my exposure to TD, BNS, BCE, T and PFE to bring them in line with the others - can you suggest some names that will complement the portfolio, keeping in mind I am looking for Income with some growth - long term hold.
Thanks
I hold a small position in Brookfield Infrastructure Partners (BIP.un) and I would like your opinion on two questions.
What is your take on the long-term prospects of BIP.un if the Inter Pipleline takeover goes through? Will it be a negative or positive long-term impact if such a large deal happens?
Also, was BIP.un ethical in using total return swaps to avoid the minimum 10% holding disclosure rule? This seems like an underhanded way to gain control of Inter Pipeline.
Q: Hi Everyone at 5i! Hope you are enjoying your summer so far! I am looking for a little advice. I hold Riocan in my RRSP and having ridden it up and down, I am now back to breaking even . As you gaze into your crystal ball, what do you think it’s future prospects will be ? I suspect that interest rates will climb and adversely effect the stock price. Any suggestions for a replacement REIT? Or conservative dividend paying alternative suitable for an RRSP. Cheers, Tamara
Q: MTY Food Group reported excellent earnings today, and the stock climbed 17% as a result. This was despite the fact that there were still 359 of their locations closed at the close of the quarter due to covid. That number is now down to 258, as reopening continues. The eps was 93 cents for the quarter, which would be a run rate of $3.72 for a year, a p/e of about 17, which seems quite reasonable for a growing business. I'm thinking that the results should be significantly better once more of the locations are open, but it is hard to quantify that. How much better do you think the results might look once virtually all of the locations are open? If they are going to be making say, $5.00 a share, the stock looks quite cheap. Do you think this is a good buy at this price?
Q: Re: IPl takeover. I already have a full position in Pembina ,and am ,at this point quite reluctant to trigger any capital gain. In looking at both offers, it seems that the Brookfield offer could be the best for me. Is there anything that I might be missing ? Thank you for your help.
Philip
Q: I am looking for retirement monthly cash flow to supplement retirement. Can you please recommend some etfs and dividend aristocrats. About $400,000.
