Q: Hello 5i,

I have a tax loss to harvest in a non-register account with JPM after ex-div; hard to believe considering rates are rising and JPM is what I thought was the blue chip of blue chips. Financials sure are not well liked in the current environment. What would be a good substitute to buy? WFC or BAC or another US bank you might recommend?

Q: I have a stake in one of these companies. Is it prudent to ad at this time and to what one and why. Also, I am starting to think that market timing is everything. You must time your investments and get out at times and maybe get back in at certain times. I think that not just buy and hold until you get Killed any more. I would appreciate tour thoughts and opinions. Thanks James

Q: For US financials you have been positive (recommended) both MS and JPM in responses to recent questions. Based on long term safety, valuation and growth potential which of these companies would you buy today? Are they sufficiently different to split the position between them?

Q: Do you think the selling in US banks is overdone? They have really taken a big hit lately. I would think with rising rates, they would be going up instead of dropping. Is this because of the war in Ukraine and their interests in Russia, or are there other factors at play here?

Which one is your favourite right now? I don't own any of them, but am thinking of starting a position.

Q: Hi 5i,
Hope you are all well.

My wife's portfolio accounts (RSP,TFSA,CASH) on a consolidated basis show the following asset allocations by % sector type:

Tech --- 38%
Telec -- 0%
Financ - 4.6%
Cons --- 6.8%
Mater -- 0.6%
Reits -- 1.8%
Energy - 3.8%
Util/Pip - 4.0%
Indus --- 2.6%
Health - - 0%
CASH --37.8%

Obviously, quite a few glaring gaps to fill ... could you please suggest some top of mind positions in the key underallocated sectors that would provide a more rational and balanced portfolio thesis.

Thank you very much,
Dean

Q: MS has been dropping the past few days, likely with the market in general and geopolitical reasons but perhaps also due to news that the SEC and DOJ are investigating the business on block trading. Given this disclosure, would you suggesting moving out of the position (even at this depressed price) into another such as JPM that does not have this similar SEC risk? Or, could this even be an opportunity to build on the MS position?
